INDEX ENTRY FOR ARPWATCH:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Name: arpwatch - Tracks Ethernet/IP address pairs
Version: 2.0.2
Author(s): Craig Leres <arpwatch@ee.lbl.gov>
Network Research Group,
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
On the CD-ROM in: network/arpwatch.tar
Ftp source: ftp.ee.lbl.gov:/
Size on the CD: 348 KB (compressed)
Description:
Arpwatch keeps track of Ethernet/IP address pairings. It syslogs
activity and reports certain changes via email. Arpwatch uses
pcap(3) to listen for arp packets on a local Ethernet interface.
Arpsnmp has the same database features of arpwatch but relies on
an external agent to collect the arp data. This distribution
contains a script, arpfetch, that uses snmpwalk from the CMU SNMP
package.
-- Adapted from the 2.0.1 arpwatch man page
Advertised architectures:
Not stated, but libpcap has been widely ported.
Prerequisites:
Arpwatch relies on libcap, a system-independent interface for
user-level packet capture. The current version of libpcap is
available via anonymous FTP from ftp.ee.lbl.gov. This library
is also bundled into the arpwatch.tar file on this CD-ROM.
The CMU SNMP package, required for arpsnmp, is available from:
ftp://ftp.net.cmu.edu/pub/snmp-dist/cmu-snmp*.tar.Z
Note: This library is included on the UNIX System Administration
Handbook CD-ROM as network/snmp.tar.
