Description:
Apache is an HTTP server designed as a plug-in replacement for the
NCSA server version 1.3 (or 1.4). It fixes numerous bugs in the NCSA
server and includes many frequently requested new features, and has
an API which allows it to be extended to meet users' needs more
easily. It has evolved into a far superior system which can rival
(and probably surpass) almost any other UNIX based HTTP server in
terms of functionality, efficiency and speed.
Apache is an entirely volunteer effort, completely funded by its
members, not by commercial sales. Apache is, as of November 1996, the
most popular WWW server on the Internet, according to the Netcraft
Survey.
