Common knowledge of sports gambling must be understood before using PLAYER. I
do not have the time nor space in this document to teach the basics of sports
gambling. The book " THE CAESARS PALACE SPORTS BOOK OF BETTING " by Bert
Randolph Sugar is recommended reading for the novice sports gambler.
A test play will be made and the result, based on the final score, will
be calculated...
PLAYER relies on the computer time and date to be properly set.
For our test play, set the computer date to Sunday September 13, 1992. Set
the computer time to 10:00 AM. (If you do not know how to set your computers'
date and time refer to your DOS users manual.) After running this test be
sure to reset your computer to the correct time and date!
BEGINNING PLAYER
To run PLAYER you must be in the player directory. Example: C:\PLAYER>
From this directory type: PLAYER <Enter>.
THE BOARD
For clarity I define the "BOARD" as a list of all games available for wagering
on a given day.
A game is said to be "off the board" when no wagers are allowed on the game.
A new board must be created for each day of wagering.
NOTE: The board for Saturday, August 14,1993 is provided as an example of a
typical board used by PLAYER. This board contains both football and
baseball schedules.
MAKING A TEST PLAY USING PLAYER
MAKE SURE THE DATE Sunday, September 13, 1992 IS DISPLAYED IN THE UPPER LEFT
HAND CORNER OF THE SCREEN!
Follow these steps to create the new board for Sunday, September 13, 1992:
Select #3 "CHANGE BOARD" from the MAIN menu.
Select "MAKE NEW BOARD". (Create and load a board.)
Using the <Insert>, <Home>, <Page Up>, <Delete>, <End>, and <Page Down>
keys set the board date to 09-13-92 and press <Enter>.
If a pop up window appears with the prompt "IS THIS THE START OF A NEW CREDIT
PERIOD?" respond by selecting "NO".
The board for Sunday September 13, 1992 now exists. (The current BOARD date is
displayed in the lower right corner of the screen at all times.)
Games must now be added to the BOARD.
For simplicity only one game will be placed on the BOARD:
