  1.  OVERVIEW
  2.  
  3.    The Maintenance Reminder is used to create and customize service
  4.    schedules for each vehicle and to log the services that have been
  5.    completed. You can create services (maintenance operations) that
  6.    are unique to each vehicle.
  7.  
  8.    The service interval time can be set for months or days (changed in
  9.    the Set Defaults). This can not be changed for each vehicle so you
  10.    will need to decide which method to use for all vehicles.  There is
  11.    also a mileage interval if the vehicle is being tracked by odometer
  12.    or a hour interval if it is being tracked by hours.
  13.  
  14.    There are no costs associated with the Maintenance Reminder.
  15.  
  16.    The Maintentance Reminder (referred to as MR from now on) is split
  17.    into the following three components:
  18.  
  19.      Global - This area contains the "master list" of maintenance
  20.        operations that can be transferred (extracted) to each vehicle.
  21.        It is intended to cut down on the amount of typing if you are
  22.        creating schedules for several vehicles.
  23.  
  24.      Reminder - This area contains the maintenance operations for the
  25.        selected vehicle. These are services that you want to routinely
  26.        perform at specified intervals.  You can create your reminder
  27.        list by extracting all the Global operations and then deleting
  28.        uneccessary ones and/or adding individual operations directly.
  29.  
  30.        If the MAINTENANCE REMINDER FUEL LOG OPTION (Set Defaults) is
  31.        set to Y, then the Maintenance Reminder will automatically run
  32.        whenever you enter the Fuel Log.  If due or overdue maintenance
  33.        items are found, then a message will display at the top of the
  34.        screen telling you to run the Maintenance Reminder program.
  35.  
  36.      Services - This area is a log of all the maintenance operations
  37.        that have been done on the selected vehicle.  They are added
  38.        from the Reminder screen.

  42.  GLOBAL
  43.  
  44.    Press G from the REMINDER screen to display or edit global mainten-
  45.    ance operations. The operations are sorted by odometers (or hours).
  46.  
  47.      ADD
  48.  
  49.        Press the A key to add a record. Enter the operation, and the
  50.        time and miles (hours) between services. Note that there are 2
  51.        fields for the operation. You can use both areas or just the
  52.        first one. There are also 2 areas for the description of the
  53.        operation after it has been completed (--completed services--).
  54.        The completed services description will be used when you are
  55.        adding completed operations to the SERVICES. This description
  56.        will usually be the past-tense of the operation description,
  57.        for example:
  58.  
  59.                  --maintenance operation-- = Change Oil
  60.                  --completed services--    = Changed Oil
  61.  
  62.        NOTE: You should include an unscheduled maintenance record in
  63.              the REMINDER for each vehicle to use when adding services
  64.              that unexpectedly come up (or are not planned for). Enter
  65.              zeros for the interval months(days) and odometer(hours).

  67.      EXTRACT
  68.  
  69.        Press the E key to copy all Global entries to the Reminder for
  70.        the selected vehicle.  Use this option only once for each ve-
  71.        hicle or you will have duplicate entries. After extracting, you
  72.        need to add the date and mileage (hours) for the last time this
  73.        operation was done to the selected vehicle. (refer to REMINDER
  74.        - CHANGE).

  78.  REMINDER
  79.  
  80.    Press Q from the GLOBAL MR screen or W from the SERVICES screen to
  81.    run the Reminder program options. The reminder operations are sort-
  82.    ed by odometers (or hours).
  83.  
  84.      ADD
  85.  
  86.        Press the A key to add a record. Enter the the time and miles
  87.        (hours) between services, the operation description that will
  88.        print on the reminder report, the date and mileage (hours) of
  89.        when this operation was last done and a service description
  90.        that will show in the SERVICES area and print on the services
  91.        completed report.
  92.  
  93.        You should have 1 reminder operation with zero months and odom-
  94.        eter to allow for unscheduled maintenance.
  95.  
  96.        You can set the reminder to check only by the service interval
  97.        months (by setting the odometer to 0), to check only by mileage
  98.        or hours (by setting the months to 0) or to check for both by
  99.        entering values in both fields. Entering both a month and odom-
  100.        eter is recommended.

  102.      CHANGE
  103.  
  104.        Press the C key to change an existing record. All records that
  105.        have been extracted (copied) from the Global area will need to
  106.        have the last date serviced and the mileage (or hours) added.
  107.  
  108.      NEW SER
  109.  
  110.        Press the N key to add a completed service record. Move to the
  111.        entries to be added and (press Enter first) enter the serviced
  112.        or done date and odometer or hours.  Press the Insert key when
  113.        you are done. The service(s) will be added to the SERVICE log
  114.        and the last serviced date and odometer on the reminder will be
  115.        automatically updated.

  117.      REPORTS
  118.  
  119.        The MR report will generate a maintenance reminder schedule
  120.        that will tell you what and when services are due and which
  121.        ones are overdue.
  122.  
  123.        NOTE: *** IN ORDER TO CREATE AN ACCURATE SCHEDULE,   ***
  124.              *** THE FUEL LOG MUST BE CURRENT (UP-TO-DATE). ***
  125.  
  126.        If the schedule is run with blank FROM and TO dates, then all
  127.        reminders will be listed with their next due dates and mileage
  128.        (or hours), otherwise a schedule will be created showing items
  129.        that need to be done within the FROM and TO dates.
  130.  
  131.        Any overdue operations will also be listed. A maintenance op-
  132.        eration is considered to be overdue if the last odometer (or
  133.        hours) plus the service interval value is less than the last
  134.        Fuel Log entry. A * will print between the date and odometer
  135.        for overdue operations.
  136.  
  137.        The MR schedule is listed in due date order which means that
  138.        items may look out of order if you are only entering a service
  139.        interval odometer and not the months.

  159.  SERVICES
  160.  
  161.    Press W from the REMINDER screen to display, change, delete ser-
  162.    vices or to run a report. Completed services are indexed (sorted)
  163.    by the dates.
  164.  
  165.      REPORTS
  166.  
  167.        You can run a report showing completed maintenance services
  168.        for any period of time. The default dates assume you want a
  169.        report showing all services.
  170.  
  171.        Printing to a file will place this report into a file named
  172.        SER.TXT which will be created in the Program Directory (VRS90).
  173.        This option will allow you to import this report into a word
  174.        processing or a spreadsheet program if those programs support
  175.        ASCII files.

  180.  
  181.    Press W to switch (window) back and forth between the REMINDER and
  182.    the SERVICES screens.

  185.  CHANGE
  186.  
  187.    Use this option to make corrections or to add items that were not
  188.    included when the record was added. Position to the field you want
  189.    to change, press Enter and make the change.
  190.  
  191.  
  192.  DELETE
  193.  
  194.    Use this to remove a record. Deleted records will not be included
  195.    in reports.  Deleted records are 'hidden' but remain in the file
  196.    until it is reindexed.
