"We take the pulp out of publishing"
The Maine PC Magazine is part of an emerging new industry called
electronic publishing. There are a handful of other electronic
publishers around the country, but none with the look and feel of
the Maine PC Magazine. Most other publications that I've seen to date
are mostly a set of text files with a main menu. These usually contain
very little color or artwork making a very boring magazine. Others have
lots a color and art but very few articles. I've strived to make the
Maine PC Magazine be as attractive and entertaining as possible, but
still contain a lot of information and interesting articles. I hope
that I have achieved that goal.
I hope you'll enjoy this issue of The Maine PC. I'd be happy to hear
any comments or suggestions that you might have. Just leave a message
to me on the MCCS BBS, The MaineBoards Echo NET or in The Maine PC
Magazine's own conference on the YANKEE ECHO NET. You may also call
me voice at (207) 763-4082
The MAINE PC Magazine is rapidly making it around the state on the
116+ Bulletin Boards we have in Maine. There are many articles that
any PC user would be interested in so be sure to upload it to your
favorite Maine BBS for others to enjoy.
The Maine PC Magazine will be uploaded to all the Maine PC Magazine
Distribution Hubs (see bbs list) prior to the first of each month.
The Maine PC Magazine is seeking Staff Members! If you would like to
be a Editor or Reviewer please contact me. I am also very interested
in including articles reviews and columns that are written by MAINE PC
users. Since this is for Maine PC Users, I'd like to see it become more
"home grown". If you would like to write a single article or an ongoing
monthly column please send me a sample article and tell me what you
would like to do. articles should be computer related news, reviews,
humor, poems or opinions, etc.
The Publisher reserves the right to refuse any articles that are
submitted. All articles submitted should in ASCII text and uploaded to
the MCCS BBS at (207) 236-8537, or mail them on disk to our address
below. Articles (disks) that are mailed cannot be returned.
The MAINE PC is published as a service to PC users throughout the state
of Maine. This publication is the sole property of the Publisher and he
alone is responsible for it's content.

ADVERTISING
The Maine PC Magazine currently makes it's way to about 65-70 of the

downloaded on an average of about 20-25 times per bulletin board. This
combined with our subscribers that receive the magazine by first class
mail means that this publication is seen by well over 1,500 Maine PC
users per month and growing, now that's target marketing! We will
place a full color ansi screen to advertise your product or service
in our next issue for only $50. That's less than 7½ cents per person!

PRINTING TEXT FILES
The MAINE PC uses Vernon Buerg's LIST.COM to read text files. This
provides a nice feature, you can print any articles as you are reading
them by simply entering <Ctrl-P>. Try that in ModemNews!
TEXT FILE COLORS
You can change the screen colors if you don't like my yellow on blue.
While reading a text file hit the <F5> to scroll through background
colors. Then hit <F6> to scroll through text colors. The <F7> and <F8>
keys change the menu bar colors. When you have hit upon a combination
you like, just hit <Alt-C> to make them the new default colors. Try
that in ModemNews!
A NOTE TO SYSOPS
If you would like to carry this Magazine on your BBS and let your
users know that you are a Newsstand for The Maine PC Magazine, you may
use the Newsstand screens that are included in this issue. Look for
NEWS-AD.ANS (ANSI) or NEWS-AD.ASC (ASCII). You may load this in any
ansi drawing program like TheDraw, and easily convert it to a *.BBS or
other format. This is the only screen that you will be able to do this
with in this publication. You will not be able to load any of the
other ansi screens into any ansi drawing program.
If you encounter any problems while running this program I'd like to
hear about it. ___
