The Grammy Awards:
A 34-Year Retrospect
(press ALT-V for graphic)
by Tony Curro
And, "the Album of the Year goes to..." For over 30 years people
have been hearing that. Each year, music fans everywhere sit and
wonder who will be the big name this year. Compton's NewMedia, a
leader in informative and educational software and CD's, have
released several CD-ROMs for music fans.
The Grammy Awards, A 34-Year Retrospect, is the first authorized
compilation of the Grammy Awards ceremony. The CD was issued in
early 1993, covering all awards from 1958-1991. Compton's will
periodically update the CD to contain current years. You need a
sound card for the audio and music portions of the disk.
With this CD, you can sit back and relive the past. Pick any year,
and see the nominees, winners, presenters, etc. There is over 50
minutes of audio clips, where you hear, in the singer's voice, their
acceptance and other notable comments. Browse through lists to see
who was nominated the most, or who won the most. Screens
fade-to-black for a realistic ending.
How much do you really know about the artists? Play the Trivia game
and find out.
I was impressed with this CD, and have had many happy hours
remembering the old days.
All music fans should own this CD. And, for Jazz buffs, there is
also another CD worth having. Jazz: A Multimedia History, also by
Compton's, is a musical journey through the history of jazz. The CD
is loaded with photos, video clips and jazz selections. The video
clips are well done, and many contain legendary greats as Louis
Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and many others. This CD is
also a worthy addition to you CD-ROM collection.
