│ FCC Frequency Retrieval System - Revision History │
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
1.15 - June 28, 1993
Added a built-in notepad editor. Allows you to create/edit
add personalized notes for anything you wish. The notpad
allows block Commands, the ability to perform cut and
paste, change margins and print, etc., all from within the
editor. This is a very flexable notepad editor for its
small size. For complete details on this addition, please
see the FCC.DOC file.
Added the ability to output selected records to a Delimited
or SDF format. This will allow the user to output records
selected through the Query/Report function to a format that
can be utilized by other systems or for incorporation into
your own designs.
Added a menu option to allow you to combine multiple
databases in a single database. This way, you can output
several counties from your master state database, and
combine them to one, giving it a unique name. You will end
up with a single database that contains exactly the
information you want, and no more. Pretty neat, huh?
Added install program to purchased system. After the SEA-
PAC convention in Seaside, Oregon, we found that many users
were having problems during the installation process. In
an effort to allievate these difficulties, we have created
an install program that will be included with each
purchased copy of the FRS. See the READ.ME and
FCC.DOC files for details on running INSTALL.
Modified the source code in the way that the Pack and Re-
index was handled. Program will, for the most part, work
as before, although it now functions slightly better
internally.
Slightly modified the wording on some items from county to
database. Previous versions of the FRS relied heavily on
county databases; the system now operates on any database
that you may have created, whether it is by county or not.
1.14 - June 17, 1993
System maintenance. Version not released.
1.13 - June 15, 1993
System maintenance. Version not released.
1.12 - May 24, 1993
Major re-write of the help system. All help screens have
been revamped and many more added.
Modified the "S" search feature in the browse window. The
last version did not have the search feature active when
the controlling index was frequency. Fixed.
If the FCC program were run from any root drive (including
a floppy drive), the program would report that it could not
find all of the necessary files and terminate. Fixed.
Minor internal modifications to code and cosmetics. No
significant changes. (Always trying to provide the best
functioning and finest looking program we can!)
1.11 - May 9, 1993
Modified the registration method. Previously, when
registering the FCC Frequency Retrieval System, the
registered serial number was embedded into the FCC.EXE
program. While this worked good, users were unable to
download newer versions from ScanWare BBS as they would not
contain their serial number. Now, FCC uses an external
registration file, FCC.REG. This file contains the
registrants informtation and serial number and will unlock
all registered features of the FCC program.
IMPORTANT NOTES: As this file is the registration file for
FCC, DO NOT DISTRUBITE THE FCC.REG FILE! To do so will be
in violation of copyright laws. Also, do not modifiy or
make ANY changes to the FCC.REG file. Should you do so,
your registered FCC program will no longer function as a
registered version and will resort to a SHAREWARE version.
Now I'm sure you didn't spend your money to have a
SHAREWARE version, now did you?
If you are a registered user, and would like to update to
version 1.11, you may download the newer version from the
ScanWare BBS FCC Registered Users Conference. If you have
not called before, you will not initally be entered into
that conference, but by simply leaving a private note to
the Sysops, you will be given access by your next call.
(The Sysops check in very regularly, so it would not be
uncommon to get updated within 6-10 hours).
To recieve your new FCC.REG file, simply leave a note to
the Sysops in the FCC Registered Users Conference. Your
registration file will be place there and you will be sent
a private message identifying the file name (it will be
available only to you as an archive). Should you have any
questions or concerns, you may either contact the authors
on the ScanWare BBS or write them at the following address:
ScanWare Associates (206) 698-1383 Voice
7910 NE Double Hitch Ct (206) 698-8207 FAX
Bremerton, WA 98310-3801 (206) 871-4228 BBS 300-14.4 Baud
LAST NOTE: There has been no other changes or
modifications to version 1.11. If you are running version
1.10, you may continue to do so without worrying that you
might not have the latest version.
1.10 - April 17, 1993
2nd Quarter 1993 release of the FCC Frequency Retrieval
System by ScanWare Associates.
The major significant difference since version 1.10 and
previous version is the removal of certain database fields
and a change in our pricing policy. The FCC system can now
be purchased for only $29.95! We have been able to acquire
the individual FCC state databases at a lower price than
before, and are passing those savings along to you.
Analysis has determined that several of the fields
previously contained in the FCC databases was generally
unused and unnecessary. The specific fields that were
removed were:
EXP_DATE - License expiration date
UNITS - Number of units licensed
CLASS1 - Type of service, i.e., mobile, fixed, etc.
CLASS2 - Type of service, i.e., mobile, fixed, etc.
CLASS3 - Type of service, i.e., mobile, fixed, etc.
I think you will agree, that to 95% of our users and
potential users, this information is largely useless.
As little data was contained in these partiuclar fields
anyway, we felt it approprate to remove them in an attempt
to reduce the overall size of the databases. We think this
has greatly improved the look and feel of the program.
As always, we have strived to improve the program by some
minor modifications to the cosmetics and internal functions
of our program. In an effort to bring you the best
frequency retrieval system money can buy, nothing is too
good for our users!
From Gene and Matt, we hope that you will enjoy the FCC
Frequency Retrieval System!
1.09a- April 14, 1993 (BETA RELEASE)
Major update to the program.
Full color configurable. You will be able to change any or
all of the colors as your heart desires. Additionally, it
will also allow running FCC on a monochrome system
(although why anyone today would run such a critter is
beyond me).
Ability to support more than one state. Simply create a
new sub-directory off of the FCC main directory, and the
set the path to that area. This way, you can have a sub-
directory for each/any state you choose. (REGISTERED
version only. The SHAREWARE version comes with FERRY
County only.)
Databases are provided for each county in your selected
state. (Again, only with the REGISTERED version.) This
will greatly improve the system processing speed as you no
longer have to manipulate the entire state database (can
you imagine doing a search on the ENTIRE state of
California, for example?) A future update will allow you
to combine selected counties into a single database for
ease of use.
1.03 - April 4, 1993
Removed most of the SHAREWARE limitations that were present
in previous versions. In keeping with the SHAREWARE
approach, and considering that your support is greatly
apprecated, we felt that limiting the FCC Frequency
Retrieval Systems use was not in the best interest of
either you or us.
Please note that the latest version is now always available
on the ScanWare Support Bulletin Board System at (206) 871-
4228.
1.02 - March 12, 1993
In order to remain competitive, we have reduced our price
to $39.99 for an entire state. This required a slight
modification to the opening shareware screen in the
SHAREWARE version. Additionally, we felt that to really
see the potential of this program, we should provide you,
the potential customer, with a database that contains
frequencies (after all, this is a Frequency Retrieval
System).
1.01 - March 5, 1993
Added code to check CONFIG.SYS for the FILES= and BUFFERS=
statements. If FILES is not at least 50 and BUFFERS is not
at least 10, then program will give the option of modifying
CONFIG.SYS.
Added text to FCC.DOC detailing the DOS Environment setting
SET CLIPPER. For maximum efficiency, this setting should
be as follows: SET CLIPPER=E:000;F:49
Modified the SHAREWARE opening screen. Added ScanWare's
address, phone, fax and BBS numbers.
Minor cosmetic modifications.
1.00 - March 1, 1993
