CNFNRIP Version 1.0 Beta
History: June 10, 1993 initial Beta release.
Disclaimer:If it screws up something it's your problem.
But the only PCBoard files affected are CNAMES in read only
and writes a CNFNR file.
What it does:
The program reads your cnames file and creates however many screens
are needed to display your conferences. There are 36 conferences
per page with the first position occupied by MAIN BOARD on each
screen. Along side of each conference name is a button that is
activated by your users mouse. When the button is selected, the
user is taken to the selected conference with no keyboar inputs
required.
Why I did it:
I run several nets with a total of 208 conferences on my board
I wanted to have a conference menu that was interactive. I set
down with RIPaint (Cost $200.00) and spent over 6 hours drawing
buttons, defining mouse areas, etc etc. Sometime in the 6th hour
the "oh crap!" light went on, I like my conferences in alpha order
with a 2 letter net prefix, City2City was getting ready to add
some more conferences and I was going to have to spend a bunch of
time creating new CNFN ripscripts. Out of desperation I wrote this
program. It creates the scripts with no need of the $200.00 program
or any more energy than typing in your board name, telling it the
security level for this menu, answering if you want it sorted in
alpha order, and where cnames lives.
What to do:
Unzip CNFNRIP to any directory of you choice. Run CNFNRIP and
answer the following questions:
Where is your CNAMES file?
EX: h:\PCB\MAIN\CNAMES If you get this wrong you will get an error
pgm 64. This beta user interface is crude. I am working on the
pretty one as we speak.
Security Level?
EX:60 would show only conferences that the security level was 60
or less.
Sort the conferences?
EX:You can leave the screens in conference order or sort them by
alpha order, now you see why I like to preface all my conferences
with a 2 letter net identifier ie:FN Freespeech. That way my
conferences get sorted alpha by net and alpha within a net.
Where should I put it when I am done?
The path and file name to generate.
EX:h:\pcb\gen\cnfnr
c:\pcb\gen\cnfnr50 for a menu for security level 50 users
I hope the fact you saved $200.00 and countless hours is worth
the $10.00 for registration. Registered users will receive a
copy that allows you to change the colors to suit yourself.
As well as a pretty color, error checking for input, etc. etc.
user interface. I would have killed for this a few days ago so
I decided to release it in this rough but usable form.
