Sounder is a simple DOS based program that will calculate a
Soundex code for one or more surnames and place the information in
a database. This information can then be viewed on-screen or
printed in a two-column alphabetized list to be used as a handy
reference during research.
Written in Clipper (Summer '87), Sounder creates a "standard" .DBF
which can be read by most all database programs. Clipper's
SOUNDEX() function calculates the Soundex code in the program.
Note: Apparently there has been two methods used in the past to
generate Soundex codes - i.e. - the U.S. government uses one
method in generating Soundex Cards and the more recent Tafel
utility uses another. Apparently Clipper uses the government's
method. Please report any discrepancies.
