Dave Aguilar has been involved in the CADD-supported AEC industry for more than 10 years, training architectural and engineering firms to visualize/design their 2D drawings in 3D. He works at Arizona CADD Systems, and is NAAUG's local user group representative.
Bill Allen is the editor of 3D Artist. He has worked in all phases of publishing, including several years as freelance writer/photographer for magazines such as Popular Mechanics and Air Progress.
Lynn Allen is director of three MTI College Autodesk Training Centers in Southern California, and has taught at Autodesk Training Centers for more than 8 years. She has trained Autodesk users all over the world. She is an Autodesk Education Training Specialist for Release 12 and has taught training sessions at the Autodesk Expo, NAAUG and CAD Camp. Ms. Allen writes CADENCE's beginner's column, "Circles and Lines." She majored in mathematics at Brigham Young University.
Kendall Alton is the assistant director of the Louisiana Productivity Center, where he is in charge of manufacturing technical research and industrial transfer programs. His 18 years of experience in the manufacturing environment includes managing the LPC continuing education courses, conducting technical software training programs, and presenting to national conferences on CIM topics.
Rick Barrientos is manager of technical services for the Technical Marketing Department at Autodesk. He has worked at Autodesk since 1988, contributing to the development of AutoCAD Release 12 and AME 2. His latest project is a CD-ROM based library of images and animations, written in Visual Basic and featuring integrated image viewers, an animation player, and a relational database.
Larry Bartosek is a consultant currently working with the University of Illinois on a large articulated support structure for the OOPS experiment at the Bates Laboratory in Massachusetts, and a superconducting spectrometer intended for CEBAF in Virginia. Previously, he worked as a mechanical engineer at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Mr. Bartosek received his BS in Physics and his BSME from the University of Illinois, and is certified as professional engineer by the State of Illinois.
Bob Bennett is senior product manager at the Autodesk Multimedia Division, working on AutoFlix, Animator, and 3D Studio. Before being hired by Autodesk to head up development for the then-new AutoShade, he consulted in the field of systems integration. A graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle, Mr. Bennett originally worked as both a city and state planner in Alaska as a GIS specialist.
Michael Berman is a practicing architect within his own architectural firm in Los Angeles, Calif. He is on the faculty at Moorpark College where he has taught AutoCAD since 1988. Mr. Berman is the current president of the Los Angeles AutoCAD User Group.
Brent Blackett is a product designer working for Autodesk as an instructor and application specialist in multimedia. Prior to joining Autodesk, Mr. Blackett worked as a contract designer for several firms, including Sun Microsystems, Logitech, Lifescan, and VISA International.
Ted Boardman teaches AutoCAD and 3D Studio at the Autodesk Training Center for AutoCAD and multimedia at the University of New Hampshire, and at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He has been using AutoCAD since 1984 as an architectural design tool in his practice in Portsmouth, N.H. In recent years, his business has shifted to presentation work using 3D Studio and Animator Pro in conjunction with AutoCAD and AME, Mr. Boardman is vice chairman of the Greater Boston AutoCAD Users Group and a co-founder of the Boston Area 3D Studio User Group.
Tom Brenner is part of Autodesk's Research & Development Department, specializing in technical resources for Generic CADD. He has been with the company for six years, previously as technical support manager. Mr. Brenner is part of the team that structured the third party developer's program for Generic CADD and related products.
Bob Callori, AIA, is a registered architect and CAD instructor at the U.C. Berkeley Extension for the interior design and interior architecture certificate program. He has authored a tutorial for ASG software, a beginner's guide to ASE, and several AutoCAD Instant Reference Release 12 books. Mr. Callori's CAD management skills have included the design on resort hotels and office buildings. For several years, he has functioned as the co-chairman of the San Francisco AutoCAD User Group, ASG Bay Area User Group, and San Francisco AIA's Computer Forum. He is a graduate of Kent State University, Ohio, School of Architecture.
Roy Chursinoff joined Saskatchewan Highways in 1988 and is responsible for all infrastructure information management systems including pavement management and GIS. He has worked as a geotechnical consultant with Clifton Associates Ltd. in Western Canada for five years and has been involved in numerous transportation projects. He has also worked as a design and geotechnical engineer at CP Rail Special Projects. Mr. Chursinoff holds an MSCE from the University of Saskatchewan.
Will Crichton works with Facility Mapping Systems in Mill Valley, Calif., where his duties include management of FMS/AC product development and of the technical staff. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado, and a member of URISA, ACSM, and BAAMA.
Michael Dakan provides AutoCAD and third-party software training services and systems consultation for clients nationwide; past clients include the Eastman Kodak Co., Walt Disney Imagineering, Black and Veatch Engineers, and the Sverdrup Corp. He is a licensed architect with 25 years of experience in design, practice, and management. Mr. Dakan is a Softdesk registered consultant, and a CADalyst contributing editor.
Ben Delaney is publisher and editor of Cyberedge Journal, a virtual reality newsletter. Before founding the Journal in 1991, Mr. Delaney served as direct marketing manager at PC World. He has provided marketing consulting services to high technology companies for more than 15 years, and has given talks on VR around the world.
Phillip Dollan is a faculty member in the CAD/CAM department of the British Colombia Institute of Technology (BCIT), with responsibility for the delivery and development of advanced CAD graphics courses. During his eight years with BCIT, Mr. Dollan has served as program head of CAD/CAM and manages their Autodesk Training Center. He is a consultant to Autodesk and serves as an education training specialist. He is also chairperson for the newly formed Instructor Development Program.
Scott Duncan is an Autodesk senior instructor, where he teaches advanced topics such as AME, AutoShade with Renderman, and AutoSurf/AutoMill. Mr. Duncan holds an engineering degree and is a licensed professional. The NAAUG ╘92 attendees rated him the conference's best instructor.
Steven Elliott is president of Visual Language Systems, and specializes consulting, producing, and training in computer graphics applications for the architectural and construction industries. He also serves as an Autodesk Education Training Specialist for AutoCAD and 3D Studio. Mr. Elliott teaches AutoCAD, 3D Studio, and Animator Pro at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill. Mr. Elliott is a frequent contributor to CADENCE, is a registered architect in the State of Illinois, and holds advanced degrees in architecture and computer science.
Vincent Everts is president of Cyco International, and has been evangelizing the use of AutoCAD on networks for more than five years. Before founding Cyco, Mr. Everts started a system-integration firm in the Netherlands which provided networking consulting to AutoCAD clients.
Ken Flesher is an instructor in Civil Technology at the University of New Hampshire, where he also manages and teaches at an Autodesk Training Center. Mr. Flesher is an ESRI-certified ArcCAD instructor.
Tim Forcade is president of Forcade & Associates, a multi-disciplinary design and communications firm. His more than two decades of practice as a designer and artist extends from architectural graphics and publication design through photography and animation. His work has been exhibited in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan. Mr. Forcade is a regular contributor to CADENCE, Computer Artist, Computer Graphics World, and other publications on 2D and 3D graphics programs and techniques.
Phil Ford is a software engineer at Autodesk, who has spent the past two years developing on AutoCAD for Windows. He worked on several core Windows features, including the OLE server, Windows ADS support, DDE connectivity, and the floating toolbox. Before joining Autodesk, Mr. Ford worked at Micropro and Northstar Computers.
Ray Freeman is principal of 3D Design Studio, an award-winning architectural firm in Seattle. He is also a consultant to Autodesk Retail Products on interface design, and has written various utility software packages for use with Generic CADD and Generic 3D, some of which has been published by Autodesk. Mr. Freeman has written two books on Generic CADD, and writes frequently for the Autodesk Software News. He received his M.Arch from Harvard University in 1982, and has taught design studios in the Harvard Graduate School of Design's career discovery program, at the Boston Architectural Center, and at the University of Washington.
Jessica Freiberg is a support analyst in the Autodesk product support department, where she specializes in peripherals issues with AutoCAD on the DOS 386, Macintosh, and Windows platforms. She started working at Autodesk in the training department three and a half years ago. Ms. Freiberg began her six years of computer and programming experience in real estate development applications.
Dave Garbiel has 16 years of experience in training, manufacturing, CAD systems, and CNC machine technology. Prior to joining Autodesk, he worked as a senior manufacturing engineer and technical trainer at Westinghouse, and was the CAD/CAM training manager at FMC Corp.
Cliff Gauntlett is manager of tools and technologies for Auto-desk, and has extensive experience in the real-world application of ADS.
Mark Gerhard is a multimedia instructor in the Autodesk Dealer Training department and has toured the globe teaching and showing 3D Studio at numerous trade shows, seminars, and events. Mr. Gerhard is a professional artist and graphic designer with more than 20 years of art experience including 5 as an instructor on presentation graphics.
Bill Glauser is an applications scientist and instructor in Autodesk's Scientific Modeling division. As a computational/theoretical chemist, Dr. Glauser's prior experience includes research in the areas of chemical reactivity and biological electron transfer at Sandia National Laboratories. He also spent two years as a visiting assistant professor at the University of South Florida. He has published 14 articles in scientific journals and is active in the American Chemical Society and InterAmerican.
Meg Godfrey is a marketing manager for the Autodesk Mechanical Division, and is the product and marketing manager for Aemulus, Autodesk's CADAM translation and emulation products. Starting as an applications engineer in Atlanta, Ms. Godfrey moved on to the multimedia group as manager of CAD applications, and more recently she worked as the advanced modeling products product manager. Ms. Godfrey spent five years in aerospace manufacturing prior to getting her mechanical engineering degree and joining Autodesk in 1989.
Ralph Grabowski is a freelance writer and international CAD consultant. As the former senior editor of CADalyst, he helped establish testing standards for the AutoCAD industry. He has reviewed more than 300 hardware and software products and has written tutorials on customizing CAD and Windows. Mr. Grabowski has written 10 books, including The AutoCAD Technical Reference. He received his B.A.Sc. in civil engineering from the University of British Columbia.
Marc Hansen is the president of Cambric Graphics. In his previous capacity as CAD manager for a division of Baker Hughes, Mr. Hansen developed CAD standards for international use within several Baker companies, as well as specifying, installing, and administering UNIX-based LANs networking Sun, Macintosh, IBM, and DOS platforms.
Heidi Hewett is an AutoCAD support analyst in the Autodesk Product Support Department. Prior to coming to Autodesk, she worked for an electrical consulting firm in San Francisco, designing lighting and electrical layouts using AutoCAD. Ms. Hewett holds an architectural engineering degree from the University of Colorado.
Jeff Hock pursued his interest in CAD/CAM as a designer and NC programmer for a manufacturing shop before joining the Autodesk team. He received his B.S. in industrial engineering from Michigan State University.
Bob Holt was the Autodesk development manager for the initial release of the Cyberspace Development Kit. Prior to his involvement in the CDK project, he served as chief engineer for the AutoCAD Advanced Modeling Extension.
Tom Hopper is an animator/ technical expert at Diaquest, which manufactures interfaces between video equipment and computers for use in animation. He has created 3D animation for broadcast, corporate, and technical markets. A graduate of San Francisco State University's broadcast communication art department, Mr. Hopper has worked at San Francisco's KTZO as an editor, cameraman, and floor director.
Neele Johnston has been with Autodesk for seven years, the past four working with Autodesk Registered Developers in several capacities. He currently manages the Autodesk author/publisher program, a subset of the Autodesk developer community. Prior to joining the Developer Marketing Group, Mr. Johnston managed the disk duplication facilities at Autodesk.
Alan Kalameja is the department head of CAD and manager of the Autodesk Training Center for AutoCAD at Trident Technical College in Charleston, S.C. He is an education training specialist with Autodesk, responsible for providing regional training to teacher trainers on all Autodesk products. Mr. Kalameja serves on a committee to develop national CAD standards for entry level CAD technicians. He joined the AutoCAD Certification Exam Board in November 1992 and has published a series of materials for individuals to prepare themselves before taking the exam.
Noah Kennedy is president of CADP, an Oakland, Calif.-based consulting firm providing diverse services to design firms in computer graphics and animation. A former architect and CAD systems manager, Mr. Kennedy is also the author of The Industrialization of Intelligence, an internationally-acclaimed study of the economics of computer technology and its effects on skilled labor.
Larry Knot is the feature team leader for AutoCAD Release 13's visualization capabilities. He has worked at Autodesk since 1987 on several projects, including Release 12 AVE and AutoShade 2.0 with Renderman.
Bill Kramer, president of Kramer Consulting, has developed a number of third-party products and tools for AutoCAD programmers and users. His previous experience includes working at A/E Microsystems, Stilson Engineering, and at Autorol Technology. Mr. Kramer has been writing about AutoLISP since the first color issue of CADalyst, supplying CADENCE with the longest-running monthly programming tutorial, "Advanced Programming with AutoCAD," as well as publishing a book on AutoLISP programming with Delmar Publishing. He received a C.I.C.S. from Ohio State University's College of Engineering in 1981.
Phil Kreiker has been writing and using CAD systems since 1968. Utilizing these systems, he has programmed and designed computers and peripherals for Data General, Digital Equipment Corp., Datarol, and Raytheon, and implemented and managed systems for the United Nations International Computing Centre and Hewlett-Packard. Mr. Kreiker teaches AutoCAD at the University of Colorado at Boulder and runs Looking Glass Microproducts. He is a contributing editor of CADalyst, and served as NAAUG president for 1992.
Blair LaCorte is director of the Mapping, GIS and Infrastructure Division at Autodesk. He came to Autodesk in 1992 from Sun Microsystems where he was manager of strategic and market planning for worldwide field operations, and acting general manager of the Worldwide Remanufacturing/ Remarketing Division. Prior to Sun, Mr. LaCorte worked as senior consultant with United Research/Gemini Consulting. He received an undergraduate degree in business from the University of Maine and an MBA in strategy and marketing from Dartmouth College.
Cindy Lancaster is the process safety management coordinator for Engineering Design Automation in Houston, Texas. She has worked on PSM teams for the past three years creating draft specifications and teaching classes on drawing and reading P&IDs. Ms. Lancaster has an education degree from the University of Arizona and has taught AutoCAD for six years.
David Lankford is the founder, president, and CEO of CADTEL. In addition to his executive role, he is responsible for directing CADTEL's product development and strategic direction. Prior to beginning CADTEL, Mr. Lankford was an outside plant engineer for Mountain Bell in Arizona for six years.
James W. Larson, AIA, is a practicing architect with experience in residential, commercial, and industrial architecture. Since 1986 he has worked at integrating the computer into the everyday practice of the small architectural firm. Since 1991, Mr. Larson has consulted with small to medium-sized architectural firms and facility managers in setting up CADD systems. Mr. Larson previously was an associate of RTKL Associates in Dallas, worked with SHWC, also in Dallas; William L. Periera Associates in Corona del Mar, Calif.; and A.C. Martin Associates in Los Angeles. He holds a B.F.A. from the University of New Mexico.
Tim Leavitt is an applications engineer for Autodesk's Retail Products Division, developing training and technical support programs for sales and marketing. Previously he was a product manager for the Generic CADD for the Macintosh and AutoCAD Simulator product lines. Mr. Leavitt is a certified AutoCAD user and systems analyst.
Patrick Liebmann is marketing manager of American Digital Cartography, where he has been employed since 1988. He has done design and implementation of new data products with many AutoCAD-based AM/FM/GIS products. Mr. Liebmann holds degrees in computer science and business administration from Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis., and is working toward an M.B.A. at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh.
Phil Leverault is the CAD/CAM instructor at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wis. He is responsible for curriculum development, implementation, and inspection in CAD/CAM training seminars for business and industry. Mr. Leverault is co-author of the 1991 AutoCAD Operator Certification Exam. He manages an Autodesk Training Center for AutoCAD and is an Autodesk Educational Training Specialist.
John Lynch is vice president of the Product Development Group at Autodesk. His group develops Autodesk CAD and modeling software products. Previously, he was director and general manager of the AutoCAD Division. Prior to his management roles, Mr. Lynch was a senior member of the AutoCAD technical staff. Mr. Lynch holds a BS and an MS in civil engineering from Ohio State University.
J.C. Malitzke is a CAD CAM instructor at Moraine Valley Community College, in the greater Chicago area. In addition to teaching, he has managed the AutoCAD program at MVCC since 1986. Mr. Malitzke has recently been chosen by Autodesk to be an Education Training Specialist.
Ian Matthew is director of the Autodesk Process and Power Division, and acting director of the Facilities, Design, Construction and Management Division in the Design Automation Group. Prior to joining Autodesk in 1992, he spent 12 years at Intergraph. In addition, he has worked with companies such as Fluor-Daniel, Bechtel, Brown & Root, M.W. Kellogg, John Brown Engineering and Linde AG. Educated in the United Kingdom, Mr. Matthew earned bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering at Sheffield University.
Milt McGrew is an experienced CAD user and trainer with a broad background in education. For more than 20 years, he has worked as an instructor and supervisor at levels ranging from middle school to four-year colleges. As a member of an advisory board for Autodesk's Education Department, he has helped set the direction for instructor development programs. He is one of the Learning Systems Group's Educational Training Specialists. Mr. McGrew authored a highly successful AutoCAD textbook, Exploring the Power of AutoCAD.
John McQuary is the director of computer integrated engineering for Fluor Daniel's Delta Business Unit. During the past ten years, he has been involved in training, development, and implementation of various plant design systems that the company uses on a wide variety of design and construction projects. Mr. McQuary was the first president of NAAUG and has an extensive AutoCAD background.
Mark Middlebrook is president of the Oakland, Calif.-based firm Daedalus Consulting, which specializes in CAD consulting for engineering companies, including structural applications, practical approaches to CAD management and customization, and database links. Mr. Middlebrook is also a contributing editor for CADalyst, assistant sysop on the CompuServe AutoCAD forum, co-chair of the San Francisco AutoCAD user's group, and co-author of the forthcoming book AutoCAD Power Tools.
Carey Moore is president and CEO of CartoLogix, a consulting organization specializing in the implementation of AutoCAD-based GIS solutions. A civil engineer by profession, he has been involved as a project manager on more than 250 successful GIS implementations worldwide. He is a director of Philips Planning and Engineering Ltd. and a partner with Svedas & Koyanagi Architects and Miller, O'Dell Planning Assoc.
Kevin Moore is the technical lead for the Autodesk Mechanical Division's next-generation parametric solid-modeling project. Before joining AMD, he worked with Aries Technology, EDS, Automation Technology Product, Applicon, and McDonnell Aircraft. Mr. Moore has a degree in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan.
Christal Moreno is a support analyst in Autodesk's product support department where she specializes in configuration of peripheral devices used with AutoCAD on the DOS 386, Macintosh, and Windows platforms. Ms. Moreno has a background in architectural design and city planning, with a B.A. in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley.
Nancy Moss joined the Autodesk training department in 1989. She teaches AutoCAD dealers and ATC instructors. Prior to joining Autodesk, she managed a CAD engineering service bureau. Her career began at R.G. Hansens & Associates, an engineering firm designing cryogenic research systems.
Matt Murphy is assistant professor of electrical engineering technology at Boston's Wentworth Institute of Technology, a four-year college and Autodesk Training Center for AutoCAD and Multimedia. In addition to conducting seminars for the ATC, he teaches CAD-related courses for degree programs at the college. He is also chair of the 1993 Autodesk Training Center executive committee.
Charles Newcombe has been a consultant for the fledgling VR industry for the last few years, and a 3D Studio beta tester since Release 1. As a graphics director, he created custom animations for companies such as IBM, the NFL, and Honda. As a CAD instructor, Mr. Newcombe designed the curricula for the Animator Pro and 3D Studio courses at San Francisco State University. He is a product manager at SPEA/Video Seven.
Bill Niemeyer is the principal of Centrimedia, an interactive multimedia production and consulting firm based in San Francisco. He has three years of experience in interactive multimedia production for DOS and Windows and has supervised production of more than 30 multimedia applications for marketing, training, and public information.
David Nurney is an associate at Newton Associates Architects in Seattle. He has been a Generic CADD user since 1986, and has been a beta tester and consultant for Generic Software since 1987. Mr. Nurney is a two-year past president of the largest Generic CADD user group in the world, and has delivered numerous presentations and seminars on the use of 2D and 3D Generic CADD software. He is involved in Generic CADD training and consulting, and is developing third party applications for Generic CADD.
Richard O'Keefe is a senior systems engineer at Starwave Corp., a startup devoted to supplying multimedia content and authoring tools for the data superhighways proposed by the phone and cable companies. He has been involved in the interactive multimedia arena for more than 10 years and the video game business for longer, having worked for such companies as Atari, Electronics Arts, NEC, and Warner New Media. Mr. O'Keefe has been involved in interactive laser disk as well as interactive CD-ROM development on a variety of platforms.
William Parker is the Checkmark product manager in Autodesk's Mechanical Division. Along with Chuck Grassley, he was responsible for achieving the designation "C4 Tactical Partner" for Checkmark at General Motors, designating the product as the corporation-wide choice for CAD data communication. Mr. Parker holds a BSE and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Barry Pfahl is an applications engineer for Autodesk's Retail Products Division, responsible for sales and marketing support in the international, corporate, and dealer markets. He has developed a range of customized CAD product demonstrations for trade shows, client presentations, and press tours.
Michelle Pillers, P.E., is a mechanical project manager for GVO, a Palo Alto design firm specializing in new product development. She is also owner of MJP Development, developing software enhancements for AutoCAD. Over the last 20 years, she has developed design expertise on injection molding plastics, precision mechanisms, machining, and sheet metals. In addition to having taught AutoCAD, 3D modeling, and AutoLISP for a number of years, she holds the title of AME Thread Master on Compuserve's Autodesk Forums.
David Pitzer was CAD coordinator for an Northern California engineering firm from 1988 to early 1993 and is now an AutoCAD instructor and consultant. He has contributed articles to CADENCE since 1990, covering AutoLISP, AutoCAD Simulator, HyperChem, and 3D Concepts. Mr. Pitzer received his AutoCAD training at The ACADemy in Sausalito, Calif., as well as the ATC at San Francisco State University. He also holds a B.S. in chemistry and biology from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
James Pollock is a landscape architect specializing in CADD applications. He has been responsible for the design and installation of numerous residential and commercial landscape projects. Mr. Pollock's forte is 3D simulations for landscape-related presentation. He holds a B.A. in landscape architecture from the University of Florida with extensive undergraduate work experience in computer science.
Len Rand is vice president of the Autodesk Design Automation Group and acting vice president of the Core Technology Group. He joined Autodesk in 1992, and is responsible for the company's CAD strategy. Mr. Rand is a veteran of Intergraph Corporation. In 1980, he founded The Rand Group, a computer-aided engineering company later acquired by Intergraph. He also served as CEO of The Whitewater Group, an object-oriented software company. Mr. Rand received an MS in civil engineering in 1976, in addition to BS degrees in building science, engineering science and architecture, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
Randy Randall is the owner of Image Production Services in Los Angeles, Calif., and has been a 3D graphics consultant since 1987, with previous work in film and photography color balance, production and quality control. He has worked with such companies as BBD&O, 3M, and On-Line Graphics. Mr. Randall is a frequent computer-graphics writer for CADENCE , and studied architecture as Orange Coast College and the University of Southern California.
David Richardson has more than eight years of environmental engineering experience with an emphasis on the application and development of computer solutions for engineering problems. Mr. Richardson's experience includes modeling, data management, training, and client technical support for projects ranging from water and sewer master plans to stormwater pertaining to environmental sampling and analysis. He obtained his B.S. in civil engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, and is a registered professional engineer in California and Massachusetts.
Jake Richter is the founder and president of Panacea and has more than 14 years of experience in programming and evaluating personal computers. In addition to serving on the board of directors of the Video Electronics Standards Association, Mr. Richter is a regular contributor to CADENCE on graphics technology issues; his latest book is AutoCAD Power Tools, co-authored with Mark Middlebrook and Bud Smith. He received his B.S.C.S from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Greg Robinson is the co-founder of LTCC Computer Consultants and a recognized expert in AutoCAD performance. He has been involved in AutoCAD production for 10 years, pursuing continuing education and training in DOS and UNIX as they entered the marketplace.
Mark Safran is the technical marketing coordinator for Hammon, Jensen, Wallen, & Associates, a full-service aerial photogrammetry firm. He is a digital mapping specialist who received his technical training in cartography at San Francisco State University and through several years as a digital map editor, CAD user, and production manager. Mr. Safran has used AutoCAD along with many other CAD and third-party software packages to generate, convert, and present digital map data.
Tom Santelle is a senior instructor at Autodesk, where he specializes in AutoCAD software training and course development. Over the last 15 years, he has also worked as a contract mechanical designer for companies including Bendix Avionics, IBM, and Westinghouse. He has worked with Autodesk as an AutoCAD reseller, distributor, and ATC manager. Mr. Santelle has been teaching AutoCAD for more than eight years.
Joe Sarcona is an AutoCAD technician in the Autodesk Product Support Department, specializing in PC hardware systems, graphic design, and file conversion applications. He has more than 15 years of experience in the design, engineering, and architectural industry and has been associated with Autodesk for six years. Mr. Sarcona joined the product support team two years ago.
Tom Scherz is the computer integrated engineering (CIE) director for the Fluor Daniel Greenville, S.C. Operations Center where he is responsible for CIE systems, applications, and project execution support. Mr. Scherz has participated in and managed the design of a variety of industrial facilities including chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, food and metal rolling. He holds B.S. degrees in chemistry and electrical engineering.
Dieter Schlaepfer is an instructor in Autodesk training department. He has worked for 18 years in the field of education, both academic and commercial, including 12 years with mechanical, architectural, and microelectronic CAD/CAE systems.
Michael Sechman first worked in an architectural rendering office, then began consulting in 1981. In 1989 he purchased his first computer system, using AutoCAD and AutoShade to develop background perspectives for his hand drawings. Continuing his dedication to the art of rendering, he used Autodesk's 3D Studio Release 1 for his first computer rendering. Mr. Sechman uses 3D Studio for all his still renderings and animations. He attended Los Angeles Harbor Junior College and the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in architecture.
Craig Sharp is director of computer services for Motley & Associates in Roanoke, Va., and has been practicing architecture internationally for 20 years. He has experience with a variety of associated software used in the management of an architectural firm, with networks, and has served as a consultant to various corporations. Mr. Sharp is the author of five books on Autodesk products for Que Corp. and has been a contributing editor to CADalyst and CADENCE. He also serves as an assistant sysop on the Autodesk forum on Compuserve.
Thomas Short has worked for Ford, Chrysler, GM, and MDC, and now owns his own business, CommandTrain. He has been involved in CAD since 1975 and with using and teaching AutoCAD since 1982. Mr. Short is a registered engineer in the State of Michigan and holds a B.S.M.E. and an M.S.M.E. He serves as the NAAUG treasurer.
Brian Smith is product marketing manager for Autodesk's Retail Products Division's CAD group, responsible for the technical aspects of product marketing for Generic CADD for the Macintosh, Generic 3D Release 2, and the AutoCAD Simulator product lines. He teaches courses in Generic CADD at Lake Washington Technical College and has used AutoCAD extensively. Mr. Smith holds an M.Ed. in industrial technology.
Paul Smith is a land planner who has been using CADD since 1987. His CADD expertise has been called upon to coordinate projects for both public and private sector clients throughout the country, and manage data from a variety of land planning disciplines. Mr. Smith holds an environmental planning degree from Cook College at Rutgers University, and has attended Harvard's Graduate School of Design Special Programs.
John Sovinsky is president of CAD Design Services, an authorized AutoCAD third-party developer and a design service firm for RF, microwave, analog, and digital printed circuit boards whose programs include Electronics Packaging Designer and GerbArt.
Ken Spenser is general manager of the Autodesk Mechanical Division (formerly Micro Engineering Solutions). Previously, he served as president and CEO at Micro Engineering Solutions and as vice president of Texas Instrument's Information Technology Division.
John Stetak is the product manager for the Autodesk Technical Data Management Division. Stetak joined Autodesk in December 1992 with 12 years of data management product experience, five years in product management, and seven years in software development management. Prior to joining Autodesk, Mr. Stetak worked at EDS/Unigraphics. He graduated from The University of Missouri's Rolla's computer science program in 1981.
Jack Strange is director of marketing for Autodesk's Multimedia Division, responsible for the worldwide strategic product management of CAD visualization, professional animation, and virtual reality tools. Prior to joining Autodesk, Strange held senior marketing positions at Ashton-Tate. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Fairfield University.
Michael Tanner is marketing manager at Autodesk's Mechanical Division in Novi, Michigan. He became part of Autodesk when the company acquired Micro Engineering Solutions, Inc. (MES) in October of 1992, where he was director of marketing. Prior to joining MES, Mr. Tanner served as director of international sales at Aries Technology, Inc. Mr. Tanner holds a BS and an MBA and resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
LeAnne Thurmond is an AutoCAD consultant based in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She has worked with AutoCAD since Version 2.1, and has not only been teaching engineers how to use CAD, but has also directed technical projects and written custom applications for lighting design, mechanical design, and log-home construction. Dr. Thurmond is President-Elect of the North American AutoCAD Users Group, and is a frequent contributor to CADENCE and ecCADENCE magazines.
Art Voss is vice-president of Starry-Eyed Productions, a multi-media house in Seattle, Wash., which has done animations for the National Parks Interactive CD, 3M's display division, as well as in the areas of medicine, engineering, and law. He now maintains a CAD consulting business. With an M.A. in art and a B.S. in chemistry, Mr. Voss taught art at Washington University in St. Louis and now lectures at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Bryan Wallace oversees software development at Blade Technologies. Mr. Wallace has designed third party AutoCAD applications for over seven years. He teaches AutoCAD programming at Austin Community College.
Tom Woznicki is the owner of Flex Circuit Design, a consulting firm specializing in designing flexible printed circuits using AutoCAD. He is also director of flex circuit operations at Silicon Valley Printed Circuits. Mr. Woznicki holds mechanical engineering and MBA degrees from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn.
Richard Weiss is a professional architect and is in his eighth year at Autodesk. He participated in the development of the AutoCAD AEC application software, and develops and presents technical training seminars in this and related material. Mr. Weiss has worked with the Bechtel Group, the City of Albany, Calif., and his own residential design and construction firm in Oakland, Calif. He has published numerous articles and lectures on architecture, facilities planning, and related software issues at the Architectural Association, London; the University of Liverpool; the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi; and the University of California at Berkeley, where he received his M.Arch. in 1973.
John Wilson is the owner-operator of a computer-aided drafting and design shop. He has completed assignments in electronics, sheet metal, molded plastics, component and assembly drawings, piping, process equipment installation, and architectural plans and details. Previously, he worked for 14 years with EG&G Idaho. Mr. Wilson received his B.S.M.E. from the University of Washington in 1975.
Terry Wohlers is the principal consultant and president of Wohlers Associates. Most recently, he has counseled organizations on how to effectively select and manage technologies for CAD/CAM/CAE, rapid prototyping and reverse engineering. Mr. Wohlers has published 180 books, articles, and technical papers on engineering and manufacturing automation. He is a frequent writer for CADENCE.
Hazel Wood manages the Unique Application Reseller (UAR) Program at Autodesk. She has eighteen years of wide ranging experience in sales, marketing, teaching and advertising. Her Autodesk career, which started in 1984, consists of six years managing dealer sales in several mid-western states and over two years in developer marketing where she was responsible for sales and marketing programs for Autodesk Registered Developers before taking over the UAR Program. Prior to Autodesk, Ms Wood worked for a division of Computer Associates International in OEM Marketing.
Gary Yost is the president of Yost Group, and the team leader for the Autodesk 3D Studio and Autodesk Animator Pro development groups.
Brad Zehring is a trainer in the Autodesk, Inc. Training Department, where he specializes in the application programming interface for AutoCAD, including AutoLISP and programmable dialogues. He has nine years of experience with AutoCAD, including three years as an Authorized Autodesk Reseller. He returned to the Training Department in 1993 after an eighteen month assignment in Autodesk Technical as the Core Development Manager for AutoCAD Release 12.
