2 Legalese
Users of CCC must accept this disclaimer of warranty:"CCC is
supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties, expressed
or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author
assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which
may result from the use of CCC."
CCC is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the
user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends,
but please do not give it away altered or as part of another
system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide
personal computer users with quality software without high
prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue
to develop new products. If you find this program useful and
find that you are using CCC and continue to use CCC after a
reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of
$25.00 to ZPAY Payroll Systems. The $25.00 registration fee will
license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time.
You must treat this software just like a book. An example is
that this software may be used by any number of people and may be
freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as
there is no possibility of it being used at one location while
it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
different persons at the same time.
Commercial users of CCC must register and pay for their copies of
CCC within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.
Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting ZPAY Payroll
Systems.
Anyone distributing CCC for any kind of remuneration must first
contact ZPAY Payroll Systems at the address below for
authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its
guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may
begin offering CCC immediately (However ZPAY Payroll Systems must
still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date
with the latest version of CCC.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of CCC along to your friends
for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if
they find that they can use it. All registered users will
receive a code to remove the shareware registration screen.

3 What Is CCC?
CCC, more affectionately known as the Credit Card Checker, is for
those who take credit card orders and enter the data into a
database on a PC or compatible computer. CCC will eliminate any
errors in transposing credit card number when taking orders on
the phone, may it be the callers mistake or the order entry
person. After entering the credit card number in your order entry
screen, a press of the hot key and CCC pops up to pluck the
number from the screen and validate the information.
The program has a number of options from displaying a window
telling you if the card is good or not, as well as telling you
what type of card it is, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or
Discover. You can select a faster option of using sound for the
verification and you will hear a short high pitched tone if the
number is valid or a longer rumbling sound if it's a bad number.
You can set the location the plucking marker pops up so it covers
your order entry program's credit card number entry field each
time as a default location. There are a number of other options
that will be covered later in this manual.
4 Installation
You can copy the files CCC.EXE (the main TSR program) and
CCCCFG.EXE (the CCC Configuration program) into a directory on
your hard drive of your choice. If you'd like, you can create a
directory called CCC to contain the files so you remember in the
future where they are located.
You will need to run the CCCCFG.EXE program initially to set up a
few default settings before you use CCC for the first time. The
first time that you run CCCCFG.EXE you will not need to get the
old configuration from CCC.EXE. (Getting a configuration will be
explained shortly). The CCCCFG menu structure has the following
options:
- 3 -
Hot key Colors Sound or windows Marker position Tsr handling Files
| |
| |
Swap memory or full TSR? |
Force to disk swap? |
|
Get
Save
Exit to DOS
4.1 Hot Key
The first selection that you must set is the Hot key that you
want as the pop up hot key. The default setting is <Alt>Z which
may conflict with another TSR program or underlying application
that you might use. Select Hot key and press the key combination
that you desire as your pop up key combination. You can select
just about any combination you can think of. Some examples are:
<Ctrl>Z
<Alt><Ctrl>Z
<Alt><Ctrl><Right Shift>L
4.2 Colors
Next if you want to see the default colors and change them select
Colors. Follow the on screen instructions to change them if you
desire.
4.3 Sound or windows
The Sound or windows option will allow you to select to change
the default of displaying the result in a pop up window to just
using sound to pass the results of the check on to the operator.
Sound is much faster but you may want to use the window until
you've gotten used to using CCC.
When you select this menu selection, you will be prompted with
the question "Want to display results on screen?". A "Y" will use
the default pop up window and a "N" will revert to sound.
4.4 Marker position
This is where you enter the row and column as well as the length
of the marker block that covers the credit card number on screen
in your order entry program. You will not change this until
you've saved the preliminary configuration and run CCC on top of
your order entry program. We have a built-in display in CCC.EXE
that will give you the numbers you need for this part of the
program setup. The following step will be used after you've
finished the preliminary setup.
Use this method "LATER" to get the information for this
configuration option:
- 4 -
After you've saved the preliminary configuration and popped up
CCC over your order entry program you need to find the position
for the default. This is done by moving the marking block with
the arrow keys to cover a credit card entry field in your order
entry program. You can also adjust the length of the marking
block with the F7 and F8 keys of your computer when CCC is popped
up. After it's positioned to your satisfaction, press the F10
key. You will see in the lower border of the help window the
following information:
Marker Column = XX, Row = XX and Length = XX
Write this down on a piece of paper and go back to the CCCCFG.EXE
program to set the default marker block positions. When loading
CCCCFG this time, you must use the "Get" selection under the
"Files" menu selection. This will read in the configuration that
you saved after performing your initial setup configuration.
4.5 Tsr handling
This menu selection is for forcing some of the TSR handling
routines. There are two sub-selections, "Swap memory or Full
TSR?" and "Force to disk swap?".
Swap memory of Full TSR will allow you to select the default
setting of swapping as a small 7K TSR or a full non-swapping TSR
which is 70K. The small 7K option (default) is preferred as it
uses little memory resources.
Force to disk swap will force the TSR in swapping mode to use
disk rather than EMS or XMS memory. If you don't have EMS or XMS
memory on your computer, CCC will swap to disk as a default.
4.6 Files
Under the Files menu option is Get, Save and Exit to DOS.
4.6.1 Get
The Get sub-menu item will read in the configuration that you
saved in CCC.EXE after you've made the above changes and have
saved them by using the next menu item described. You will use
this selection whenever you start up CCCCFG.EXE after this
initial setup process is completed.
4.6.2 Save
The Save menu selection is what you will use after you've
completed the above initial setup process. This will configure
CCC.EXE with the changes that you've made in the configuration
program. You will also use this option any time that you use
CCCCFG to make changes that you want saved as the default
settings in CCC.EXE.
- 5 -
4.6.3 Exit to DOS
This selection is used when you have finished with the
configuration process and are ready to exit the CCCCFG.EXE
program.
5 Loading CCC for use
CCC.EXE is a memory resident program. You just need to load it
at the DOS prompt by logging into the CCC directory and type CCC
at the DOS prompt. You will receive a message something like
this:
CCC The Memory Resident Credit Card Checker Version 1.0
Copyright (c) 1993 by Paul Mayer & ZPAY Payroll Systems, Inc.
CCC loaded. Press <Alt>Z to call up CCC.
To uninstall CCC type CCC /R
Using EMS memory for swap
As you can see, CCC tells you the hot key that you've set as your
default as well as tells you how to unload CCC from memory if you
want to remove it after use.
6 Using CCC in your application
After loading CCC into memory, you can load your order entry
program. We assume that you've set the location of the marking
block already as described above and are ready to go to work.
As soon as you've typed in a credit card number, press the CCC
hot key. CCC will pop up and cover the number. If you've opted
to use the display window to report on the cards, press enter
after CCC pops up. CCC will check the number and display the
report. Press enter to exit CCC and continue with order entry
operations.
Repeat as needed.
If you've opted for the sound method of reporting, simply press
enter after CCC pops up and listen for the report.
Repeat as needed.
You can also use CCC to enter a card number for checking. Just
press the F9 key after popping up CCC and enter the number for
checking.
