If you have passed your test on or after
1 April 1991, you have 2 years from the date of your
test to apply for a full licence. If you passed your
test before 1 April 1991 you must apply for a full
licence within 10 years of passing your test. If
you leave it longer than this you will need to take
another test (theory and practical).
Eyesight - you must be able to read in good daylight. The acid test is to be able to read correctly a
vehicle number plate at a distance of 67 feet. Newer number plates with a narrower font should be
read correctly from a distance of 66 feet. If you need glasses to read the number plates, then they must
be worn every time you drive. It is a criminal offence to drive if you cannot meet the required standard.
