SHAREWARE NOTICE:
=================
This Program is Shareware. This means that if you find it useful you
MUST register it if you are going to continue using it.
You may try it for 30 days to determine whether it is a program that
you consider helpful and worth paying for. After 30 days you must
either send the registration fee or delete it from your hard drive.
You may (in fact you are encouraged to) distribute this software by
uploading it to any BBS that you call, or pass it along to a friend.
You may NOT charge anything for this utility and you may not include
it as part of any software that you are selling.
If you like the Program and continue using it then you MUST send me
$15.00 to encourage me to continue writing Wildcat! Utilities, and to
help convince my boss that I am not wasting his time <grin>. Also,
I am interested in any comments/suggestions/observations you may
have regarding wcTraffic.
Registered users receive free minor ('point') updates with all the
latest features, and all the nag screens turned off. They also
will be able to sleep at night, and not worry about having
unregistered software on their systems! Please see the file
REGISTER.FRM for more information, and the specifics on the free
updates.
What is wcTraffic?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
wcTraffic, or WCT from here on, is a log file utility / screen maker
for Wildcat Sysops who use the wcUUCP (TM) Internet e-mail gateway
from Mustang Software, Inc.
Features of WCT v1.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------
WCT scans your WCUUCP.LOG (created by WCUUCP). From this log
file it will do the following:
- Create a 'Last 12 Mail Runs' HELLO/BULL screen w/Wildcat @ codes.
- Finds all ERRORS logged by wcUUCP and writes them to a separate
text file.
- Allow you to modify different colors of the Hello/Bull screen (R)
- Allow you to enter a custom text line into the Hello/Bull screen (R)
(R) = Registered Version
Other notable features:
- Keeps track of the last time / date in the WCUUCP.LOG file for
error scan. Only scans for new errors since it was last run.
- You may setup a WCTERR.BAT file and call it from your UUCP.BAT to
automatically send yourself a message containing any new errors
since the last run.
- Fast Operation! It takes less than 5 seconds to run on a 500K log
file on my test machine (486DX/33).
- Tested under Multi-Node conditions - DesqView & Novell Netware
- Easy text file based configuration
- Does not expire! Uses a KEY file for registered versions.
- Easy to register! Just call our BBS and register On-line through
our registration door.
- E-Mail based updates. The latest versions will be sent to
registered users via private Internet e-mail as an attachment,
if you wish.
Do you need WCT?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that depends. First, you must have WCUUCP from Mustang Software,
or WCT will not do you one bit of good!
I originally wrote WCT for 2 reasons:
1- My callers were always asking, 'What time do the messages go out
again?', and 'How many messages come in and out of this system'.
WCT answers these questions, and also shows them that our E-mail
gateway is REALLY working. I made it a HELLO screen, and have
gotten numerous new subscriptions from callers who see what they
are 'missing out on'. It also helps me see if I am having any
problems with my UUCP host by displaying the activity each time
I login.
2- wcUUCP (TM) does a great job of tracking any errors that
may occur during the toss. The problem is, I don't have the time
to read every line of the WCUUCP.LOG file to find these errors!
WCT pulls these errors out of the log, and puts them in a Sysop
configurable file. It also keeps track of the last mail run
it processed, and will only look for 'new' errors since. I
have setup (and include it as an example) a WCTERR.BAT file,
which will automatically send you a message (via POSTMASTER) if
a new error shows up.
If these features interest you, read on.
Files included in the archive
--------------------------------------------------------------------
REGISTER.FRM Registration form.
WCTRAF10.EXE Main program executable
WCTRAF10.CFG Sample configuration file. You must edit
this and add your own values!
WCTRAF10.KEY Dummy demo key, but required for operation.
Replace this with your registered key file
when you register!
WCTRAF10.DOC This file!

UUCP.BAT A sample of my UUCP.BAT file
One more note before Installation
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WCT ships with a 'DUMMY' KEY file called WCTRAF10.KEY. DO NOT DELETE
THIS FILE! It is simply a 'placeholder' until you register and replace
it with your own WCTRAF10.KEY.
WCT does not expire. You are, however, expected to register it within
30 days if you find it usefull. With registration, WCT behaves
differently in the following ways:
- Removal of 'UNREGISTERED' in BBS screen
- Removal of 'For info about wcTraffic....' in BBS screen
- Your Name & BBS Name in the BBS screen
- Custom @-Color codes to make the BBS screen fit your 'look'
- Custom dedication or text line in the BBS screen
- Removal of 10 second startup delay
See the REGISTER.FRM for more details on registration.
See the file HELLO2.BBS included in this archive as an example of
a Registered screen created by WCT.
Setup Instructions
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup is very simple (Honest!)
1. Unzip the WCTRAF10.ZIP file into your favorite directory.
It doesn't matter where they go, and you could put them
in your WC30 directory if you wish. I have mine in:
F:\WC30\WCT10
Replace the 'F' with your drive letter, of course.
2. Edit the WCTRAF10.CFG file with an ASCII text editor. The
following is an example of my WCTRAF10.CFG file:
+ START WCTRAF10.CFG FILE------------------------------------
Become a member of our BBS and get on the Internet!
F:\WC30\WCUUCP\WCUUCP.LOG
F:\WC30\DISP\HELLO2.BBS
F:\WC30\WCTRAF10.ERR

*****************Legend for above***********************
Line 1 = Custom Message (REG Version Only)
Line 2 = Name/path for location of WCUUCP.LOG
Line 3 = Name/path for output of WildCat Screen/bulletin file N = Don't Use
Line 4 = Name/path for output of Error Text File N = Don't Use
Line 5 = Color of lines Format = Background/Foreground (REG Version)
Line 6 = Color of BBS name (REG Version)
Line 7 = Color of Custom Message (REG Version)
Line 8 = Color of Title line (REG Version)
Line 9 = Color of first line of wcTraffic BBS screen (REG Version)
Line 10 = Color of Alternate line of wcTraffic BBS screen (REG Version)
+END WCTRAF10.CFG FILE----------------------------------
Some notes on the above:
Line 1 - [Registered Feature] - Message/Dedication line
-----------------------------
Enter a simple one line message that you wish to be included
on the BBS screen. I use this to inform my 'non-subscribers'
of what they are missing out on. You can also use this as a
dedication line if you wish.
Note: This line must be present, even if not registered. WCT
will ignore it in the non-registered mode, but it needs to
be there as a 'place holder'.
Line 2 - Path to WCUUCP.LOG
-----------------------------
Enter your full path & name of your WCUUCP.LOG. In 99% of
the cases, all you will need to change is the drive letter.
Line 3 - HELLO / BULL Screen name
-----------------------------
This can be either a HELLOx.BBS or BULLx.BBS or whatever
else you may want it. Whichever you use, make sure you
enter the proper path. Normally, bulletins are in the:
WC30\BULL
and Hello screens are in the:
WC30\DISP
directories.
*If you do not wish to make a BBS screen, enter an 'N'
(no quotes) on this line.
Line 4 - Error file name
-----------------------------
Enter the full drive/path/file name that you want WCT to
use as your ERROR file.
*If you do not wish to have WCT look for Errors, enter
an 'N' (no quotes) on this line.
Lines 5 - 10 [Registered Feature]
-----------------------------
These are the Wildcat @ Color codes you wish to use. See
the legend above or in the WCTRAF10.CFG file for the
specifics on which parts of the BBS screens they pertain
to. Only put the 2-digit code - I supply the @'s <g>. See
your Sysop guide or the WCTRAF10.CFG file for an explanation
of the @ Color codes.
Special note on lines 9 & 10: These are the 'detail' lines
for each mail run. I prefer to alternate colors here to
make it more readable and give it a 'green bar' effect. If
you do not want alternating colors, make both lines the same.
3. Finally, edit your UUCP.BAT file to include a call to
WCTRAF10.EXE on the last line. This way everything is
updated each time you make a UUCP run. My UUCP.BAT file
looks like this:
+START UUCP.BAT FILE---------------------------------------
CD\WC30
WCUUCP /E
CD\WC30\WCUUCP
:REDIAL
UUCICO -SNETCOMSV -A -W
IF ERRORLEVEL 6 IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 9 GOTO REDIAL
CD\WC30
WCUUCP /I
CD\WC30\WCT10 <========= Add
WCTRAF10 <========= These
CD\WC30 <========= Lines
CALL F:\WC30\WCTERR.BAT <========= Add this one if you want
your ERROR file sent to you
via POSTMASTER.
+END UUCP.BAT FILE------------------------------------------
Important notes on the above
-----------------------------------------------------------
You should make sure WCT and WCUUCP are not both running at
the same time. WCT needs to read the WCUUCP.LOG file, and
will get very confused if WCUUCP has it open and is updating
it. Run WCT from your UUCP.BAT file, and this will never happen.
If you wish to have WCT re-process your entire log file again,
simply delete the file WCTRAF10.LRD. This file stores the
last run date & time. Run WCT again and your entire log
will be processed.
Multi-Node Systems (Technical Info)
------------------------------------------------------------
WCT has been tested on several Multi-Node systems, including
on Novell Netware 3.11, & DesqView (DesqView node is also on a
3.11 network). WCT creates a file in your output screen directory
called WCTRAF10.TMP. This is the work file where the screen is
built. After it is built, WCT attempts to copy the temp file
(using its own copy routine) to the BBS screen name. If the BBS
file is in use (ie, someone is viewing it in Wildcat), WCT will
delay for 5 seconds, and then retry the copy procedure. WCT will
continue this retry 'loop' until either the file is released, or
it's retry counter reaches 50.
