  3.                        GET ADDITIONAL PHONE LINE(S)

  5.             If you haven't  already  found  the  necessity  of  a
  6.             second  phone  line  as a modem user then you haven't
  7.             been doing much downloading (or uploading)!  There is
  8.             nothing more frustrating than being in the middle  of
  9.             a   500K   download   when   someone  in  the  family
  10.             unknowingly picks up the extension phone.  All  of  a
  11.             sudden  CHINESE  appears on the screen with a hundred
  12.             funny looking characters going every which way -  and
  13.             the  download  is  obviously  aborted  in two seconds
  14.             flat!  As a modem USER it is almost  a  necessity  to
  15.             have  a second line dedicated solely to the computer,
  16.             but as a SYSOP it is  INDISPENSIBLE!   At  LEAST  ONE
  17.             extra  line....and  depending  on  how  much big of a
  18.             board you actually plan on running, maybe even two or
  19.             three or more additional to that!  I  told  you  that
  20.             this  is  an expensive "hobby"! and this is one place
  21.             where the $$$$ come shining through!

  23.             I have had a second line for two years now, and  with
  24.             my limited budget that is all I can rightfully afford
  25.             right  now!  and I am doing well on the board!  users
  26.             once in a while complain about not being able to  get
  27.             on-line  because  it is always busy! but for the most
  28.             part it is not an issue.  I average about 30 calls  a
  29.             day  and  that  is  all I really care to have at this
  30.             point!  If each one stays on an average of 20 minutes
  31.             that is a  LOT  of  on-line  time.   My  multitasking
  32.             option is currently not up to par ... so I opt not to
  33.             use  it  ...  which means that NO ONE is on the line,
  34.             for example, right now, as I write this.  But that is
  35.             the sacrifice that the user has to make.  Not TOTALLY
  36.             ALWAYS having his favorite BBS ready  to  accept  his
  37.             call.    There  ARE  circumstances  when  it  is  not
  38.             possible to connect, and the user  needs  to  realize
  39.             that  this  does  not  make  for  a bad or unreliable
  40.             board!

  42.             Back to the point at issue: the second line.  I  have
  43.             a  two  line  phone hooked up to my computer as well.
  44.             That way I can keep all board related  calls  on  one
  45.             section  of  my  phone  bill.   I can call out on the
  46.             second (board) line when a user is not on-line.
