  17. INTRODUCTION:
  18. =============
  19. 1. Goldmine Goal Setter is a sophisticated, professionally
  20.    developed Windows product for formulating and maintaining
  21.    a set of Life Goals.
  22. 2. Having Life Goals can radically improve the degree of 
  23.    happiness, fulfilment and satisfaction you experience
  24.    while on this planet.
  25. 3. In keeping with Goldmine Systems' belief that this product
  26.    can be of immense value to you, the registration fee 
  27.    has been kept very modest: On average $30, plus a $5 
  28.    shipping fee. (The actual fee varies according to your 
  29.    income level.) 
  30. 4. You are strongly encouraged to take the concept of this
  31.    product seriously: You can reap major personal rewards!!

  35. INSTALLATION:
  36. =============
  37. 1. If you have the three diskettes in zipped or packed format, 
  38.    you need to unpack them, twice, to two sets of diskettes.  
  39.    If the diskettes are in ready-to-install condition,
  40.    then simply take a backup copy of the three diskettes.
  41.    One set of diskettes is to be used for 
  42.    installation, and the other set is for backup purposes, 
  43.    and / or for giving away to your friends.
  44.  
  45. 2. The installation procedure modifies install disk one 
  46.    to contain the installer's name (and organisation if 
  47.    relevant). Subsequent installations from those disks will 
  48.    inform the new installer of the original installer's name.
  49.  
  50. 3. If Windows is not running, start it up.
  51.  
  52. 4. Make sure that you have at least 5MB of free disk space on 
  53.    your hard drive. 
  54.    Note: If you use an operating system which
  55.    has disk compression, and compressed disk space, it is 
  56.    recommended that two of Goldmine Goal Setter's files be 
  57.    installed in UNCOMPRESSED disk space. This is due to the 
  58.    fact that the files are relational database structures, 
  59.    with sophisticated record-retrieval algorithms,
  60.    which can be slowed down if the files are in compressed 
  61.    disk space.
  62.    The two files are:
  63.    - GOALMINE.MDB
  64.    - GOALMIGS.MDB .
  65.  
  66. 5. Put the diskette labelled Disk 1 in the A: drive. 
  67.  
  68. 6. Run, under Windows, A:\setup.exe . A standard 
  69.    Microsoft-style Windows installation then begins.
  70.  
  71. 7. NOTE: It is recommended that Goldmine Goal Setter 
  72.    be installed in the default directory: C:\Goalmine.
  73.    If you do not install it in this directory, you need to
  74.    take special action, detailed later in this document.
  75.  
  76. 8. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
  77.  
  78. 9. The installation procedure might request you to re-boot your 
  79.    system after installation. Do so, if required.
  80.    
  81. 10. After installation, double-click on the Goal Setter icon 
  82.     to start Goldmine Goal Setter.
  83.    
  84. 11. You will first see a screen saying 'Welcome to Goldmine'. 
  85.     If you installed the product in C:\Goalmine, Press OK.
  86.     (If not, see the special instructions later in this 
  87.     document.)
  88.    
  89. 12. You will then see a screen showing product registration 
  90.     details. Read the information, and fill in personal 
  91.     details such as name, and especially your date of birth.
  92.     You are not at this time registering the product, 
  93.     although you are most welcome to!
  94.     Your date of birth is used for generating goal target dates
  95.     for age-specific goals.
  96.    
  97. 13. After entering your date of birth, press the button 
  98.     labelled: Update Age-Specific Target Dates.
  99.  
  100. 14. After that, a small window will appear showing you the 
  101.     age-specific target dates. Press the Close button.
  102.     Goldmine Goal Setter comes with some sample goals
  103.     based on a date of birth of January 1, 1970.
  104.  
  105. 15. Press the Registration Benefits button and read the 
  106.     contents. Press OK when finished.
  107.  
  108. 16. Press the Licence button, and read the contents. Press the 
  109.     Exit button in the top right-hand corner of the screen 
  110.     when finished. This will take you back to the Registration
  111.     screen.
  112.  
  113. 17. On the Registration screen, press OK. This will take you
  114.     to Goldmine Goal Setter's main menu.
  115.      
  116. 18. Display the Getting Started help topic by pressing F1.
  117.     Follow the instructions in that topic to get an overview 
  118.     of Goldmine Goal Setter. 
  119.  
  120. 19. You are now ready to let Goldmine Goal Setter start 
  121.     revolutionising your life!!!

  125. NON-STANDARD INSTALLATIONS:
  126. ===========================
  127. 1. The file c:\Windows\GOALMIGS.INI needs to have 
  128.    two lines altered:
  129.    1.1 The second line in the file:
  130.            Icon=c:\goalmine\goalmine.ico
  131.        needs to be updated to show the correct directory.
  132.    1.2 The third line in the file:
  133.            HelpFile=c:\goalmine\goalmigs.hlp
  134.        needs to be updated to show the correct directory.

  136. 2. The file c:\Windows\GOALMINE.INI needs to have 
  137.    two lines altered:
  138.    2.1 The second line in the file:
  139.            Icon=c:\goalmine\goalmine.ico
  140.        needs to be updated to show the correct directory.
  141.    2.2 The third line in the file:
  142.            HelpFile=c:\goalmine\goalmigs.hlp
  143.        needs to be updated to show the correct directory.

  145. 3. At point 11 in the installation procedures above, you 
  146.    need to follow a different procedure:
  147.    3.1 On the 'Welcome to Goldmine' screen press the button 
  148.        called Database Location.
  149.    
  150.    3.2 Press the Force New Database Location button.
  151.    
  152.    3.3 Press the Global Path Change button.
  153.    
  154.    3.4 Press the Browse button. This will pop open a window
  155.        where you can search your disk directories.
  156.    
  157.    3.5 Locate the directory where GOALMINE.MDB is installed.
  158.    
  159.    3.6 Press OK on the small pop-up window.
  160.    
  161.    3.7 Press OK on the main screen. This will pop open
  162.        another window asking for confirmation of the
  163.        database relocation.
  164.    
  165.    3.8 Press Yes to force a rebuild of all attachments.
  166.    
  167.    3.9 Unless errors occurred, and on-screen instructions
  168.        request you to do otherwise, Press Exit to take 
  169.        you back to the 'Welcome to Goldmine' screen.
  170.        You can now press OK on the Welcome screen, and
  171.        resume standard start-up as at point 12
