To all radio amateurs
Shuttle To Carry Amateur Radio Experiment
Space Shuttle Discovery, mission STS-60, is set for launch February
3 at 1210 UTC (7:10 AM EST) from the Kennedy Space Center, Cape
Canaveral, Florida. The mission is scheduled to last 8 days. All
Shuttle air-to-ground audio is typically retransmitted by the
following Amateur Radio clubs: Goddard Amateur Radio Club, WA3NAN,
on 3.86, 7.185, 14.295, 21.395, 28.65 and 147.45 MHz. Johnson Space
Center Amateur Radio Club, W5RRR, on 3.850, 7.227, 14.280, 21.350,
28.400 and 146.64 MHz.
The mission will carry the Shuttle Amateur Radio EXperiment payload.
Schools in Boise ID, Chariton IA, Sidney ME, Mars PA, and the House
of Science and Technology for Youth in central Moscow (Russia) are
scheduled to contact the crew during the flight. There will also be
opportunities for random contacts with the Amateur Radio community
as the astronauts' primary work schedules may permit.
Look for the following licensed crew members. Commander Charles
Bolden, KE4IQB, and Mission Specialists Ronald Sega, KC5ETH and
Sergei K. Krikalev, U5MIR.
SAREX hardware Configuration C will be flown. This configuration
includes 2- meter FM voice and packet. The worldwide voice and
packet downlink frequency is 145.55 MHz. Please do not transmit on
this receive-only frequency. The voice uplink frequencies are
144.91, 144.93, 144.95, 144.97, and 144.99 MHz. In Europe, the
voice uplink frequencies are 144.70, 144.75, and 144.80 MHz. The
worldwide packet uplink frequency is 144.49 MHz. The packet call
sign is W5RRR-1.
