  26. As  next weekend is Central Coast Field Day at  Wyong,  please 
  27. note  that the usual Sunday morning broadcast will go  out  at 
  28. the same time a day earlier on the Saturday...
  29.  
  30. Repeat,  the  morning  broadcast will take place at 0030UT  on 
  31. Saturday 26th February.
  32.  
  33. Of  course,  this  is so ANARTS relay officers can go  to  the 
  34. Field Day along with the rest of the East Coast amateurs. Look 
  35. for us there, and say hello.

  37. Back to normal the following Sunday ...

  41. Change in 80m broadcast relay
  42. -----------------------------
  43. Due  to very poor propagation in this part of the cycle during 
  44. summer  months,  it has been decided to drop the 80m relay  of 
  45. the  cast  from December to March inclusive.  The  relay  will 
  46. resume  on  the first Sunday in April,  which is the 3rd  this 
  47. year.
  48.  
  49. This could be reviewed in future years, but should be in force 
  50. until  at  least 1997,  judging by the way the  current  solar 
  51. cycle  is progressing.  The minimum for the cycle is estimated 
  52. variously  to come from late 1995 to around April  1996.  This 
  53. presumes  that  the cycle length will continue to  shorten  to 
  54. under 10 years,  the last cycle being 9.6 years in length. The 
  55. decline of the present cycle is running three to eight  months 
  56. ahead  of cycles 18,  19,  and 21 (cycle 20 was of much  lower 
  57. amplitude).

  59. Something  good  to remember -- the present cycle  (cycle  22) 
  60. reached its maximum in the record short interval of 2.8 years.
  61. Perhaps this next one will be similar.

  72. Don't forget the Central Coast Field Day on 27th February,  at 
  73. the  prestige  venue  of the Wyong Racecourse in  Howarth  St. 
  74. Wyong.

  76. There  you  will meet the committee of ANARTS  -- Col  VK2CTD, 
  77. President, Jim VK2BQS, Vice-President, Alan VK2DPM, Treasurer, 
  78. and  Pat VK2JPA,  Broadcast Officer,  will be floating  around 
  79. somewhere  with  a video camera.  (I am also a member  of  the 
  80. Gladesville Amateur Radio Club Inc. specialising in ATV, and I 
  81. have been told that I don't float! Pat)

  83. Don't forget to enter the Morse contest ANARTS will be running 
  84. again.  It  was  such a success last year that it  will  be  a 
  85. feature of the stand again this year.  Polish your sending and 
  86. receiving  skills and come along and participate in this  most 
  87. historic method of amateur digital transmission.

  91. computer  pictures.  Murphy has struck again and the hard disk 
  92. crashed  rather  permanently by the sounds of  things,  so  we 
  93. can't  show the fractals and other images we had lined up  for 
  94. display. There's always next year.

  107. each call district in JA, VE, and VK, (NOT USA), regardless of 
  108. band. (NO band multipliers). For USA stations,  count only the 
  109. FIRST   QSO  with  a  USA  station  as  a   DXCC/WAE   country 
  110. multiplier, regardless of band.

  112. QSO points:  Count 1 point for QSO with own country (States of 
  113. USA are not counted as countries).
  114.  
  115. Count  2  points for QSO outside your own country, but within 
  116. continent.
  117.  
  118. Count 3 points for QSO outside your own continent.

  120. Final score: Total QSO points x total of multipliers.

  122. Awards:  To  top stations in each class,  country and district 
  123. mentioned above.

  125. Logs:  Logs must contain:  Date,  Time UTC,  Callsign, Message 
  126. sent/received, name, US-state, first-time-mult prefix, and QSO 
  127. points.  Also  required  is  a Summary sheet with  a  list  of

  155.  
  156. Solar  activity was mostly very low except for 13th  and  17th 
  157. February when activity was low. 
  158.  
  159. The  geomagnetic field at Learmonth (WA) from 11th to 15th was 
  160. mostly  unsettled  to active with storm levels at  periods  on 
  161. 11th,  and  minor  storm  levels at times  on  the  12th-15th. 
  162. Conditions  on  16th were unsettled to active,  and  quiet  to 
  163. unsettled on 17th. 
  164.  
  165. Ionospheric  F2  critical  frequencies  at  Sydney  were  near 
  166. predicted levels 11th to partway through 13th when frequencies 
  167. were firstly enhanced by up to 40 per cent,  then depressed by 
  168. up  to 30 per cent after 1700UT.  Frequencies on 14th to  15th 
  169. ranged  from  near  normal  to up to  60  per  cent  enhanced, 
  170. returning to near predicted values on 16th,  then up to 15 per 
  171. cent enhanced on 17th February.  There was Sporadic E blanket-
  172. ing at 0800UT on 11th and some spread F during local night  on 
  173. 16th.

  175.          Forecast for the next week (18 - 24 February)
  176.  
  177. Solar   : Low.
  178.  
  179. Geomagnetic:  Active 20-23 February due to a coronal hole.
  180.  
  181. Ionospheric:  Near  predicted  monthly values,  MUFs are  then 
  182.               expected  to be depressed 15-20 per cent  during 
  183.               the coronal hole activity.
