INTRODUCTION:
Thank you for your interest in 3D-CRIBBAGE. The program is called 3D-
CRIBBAGE because of its graphical display, and the working cribbage board,
which actually moves the pegs for you! This modern day adaptation of the
16th century English card game, will allow the user to select the skill
level, speed of play, screen color, peg colors, and if user or computer
will score hands.
If you obtained 3D-CRIBBAGE from a shareware disk vendor, a BBS, a
friend or colleague, or another similar source, you have an unregistered
(evaluation) copy. If you enjoy playing cribbage and find that you are using
it for more than 30 days, you must make a registration payment of $25. Upon
receipt, I will send you a permanent copy, which can personalized with your
name. In addition, you will receive a certificate entitling you to 1/2 off
the "JCSM Shareware Collection"(tm).
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
3D-CRIBBAGE requires an IBM PC or compatible, with a VGA adapter and
monitor. You will also need a hard disk or a high density floppy drive to
install 3D-CRIBBAGE on. A 286 or higher is recommended.
INSTALLATION:
3D-CRIBBAGE can be installed using the INSTALL.EXE program. After
viewing the opening screen, the program will ask you which drive you are
installing 3D-CRIBBAGE from. Enter the name of the drive, usually A:. The
program will then ask you which drive you want to install 3D-CRIBBAGE on,
the default is C:\CRIBBAGE. The program will then copy the necessary files
for the program to operate.
PROGRAM OPERATION:
To start to play a game, you must first log to the cribbage subdirectory,
do this by typing CD\CRIBBAGE [return]. Start the program by typing CRIBBAGE
[return]. The program will begin by displaying an opening message. After
reading the message, hit any key to enter the game menu. There are three
choices from the main menu, select one by using the function keys.
They are:
* F1 - How to Play
* F2 - Configure Game.
* F3 - Play Cribbage
* F4 - Exit to DOS
The cribbage game begins by offering the deck to cut for deal. The card
edges will flash sequentially. To select a card press any key, stopping the
flashing card edges, and the card you selected will be displayed. The
computer will then display its selection. The low card deals. In the event
of a tie, the cards will be cut again.
The cards are automatically shuffled and six cards are dealt to the
player and the computer. The players six cards are displayed. The player
must select two cards for the crib. This is done using the cursor (arrow)
keys to move the yellow indicator arrow above the cards. Hit [return] to
discard the selected card. The nondealer will then select a cut card, this
is done in the same manner as the opening cut.
The count is lead by the nondealer. The cards are selected and played
in the same manner as discarding to the crib. The current count is displayed
in the message window, at the screen center. If you can't play, or the
computer has said "go" then press the [G] key or space bar to say "go".
The hand is concluded with displaying and totaling the points in the
hands. The program can be configured to automatically total all hands, or
make the user total his or her own hand(s). The cards are then automatically
shuffled and a new hand is dealt.
The Configure Game screen allows the player to adjust a variety of
settings. Setting such as: Speed of game, Computers skill level, Screen color,
Peg colors, and Automatic hand totaling. Use the [cursor up] and [cursor
down] keys to select the configuration item. Use the [cursor left] and
[cursor right] keys to adjust the item's value. After adjusting the desired
parameters, you can exit using one of the commands listed at the bottom of the
screen.
HOW TO PLAY:
There are a few things you should keep in mind when playing cribbage, and
they are as follows:
* The ace is always low. (equal to one)
* Face cards are counted as ten, all other cards equal
their numeric value.
* Runs do not have to be the same suit.
* There are no wild cards.
The game is started with a cut of the deck to determine who will deal the
first hand. The person who cuts the lowest card deals first. Six cards are
dealt in an alternating sequence to each player (you and the computer).
Each player must select two of the cards to be discarded to the crib.
The crib is like an extra hand whose points are given to the dealer. After
both players have discarded to the crib, the remaining deck of cards is cut
by the nondealer. The dealer turns up the top card of the lower portion of
the deck and places it face up. The dealer gets two points for turning up a
Jack. The cut card and the crib hand is set aside for use after the count.
The next portion of play is commonly referred to as the count. The count
is lead off by the nondealer, by taking a card from his hand and placing it
face up on the table and announcing its numeric value. Then the other player
places one of his cards face up, and announces its value plus the last value.
This continues, alternating players lay a card and add its numeric value to
the last value announced. Play continues until someone reaches 31, or until
no cards can be played without exceeding 31, this is called a GO.
Scores are made for:
* 2 Points - PAIR
* 6 Points - 3 OF A KIND
* 12 Points - 4 OF A KIND
* 2 Points - card played plus count equals 15 or 31
* 1 Point - Last card played
* Score # of cards - RUN any suit, any order (3 minimum)
When a GO is reached, the opponent receives a point. The player who
called GO then restarts the count again adding his card plus zero.
Play of the hand is then concluded by showing the hands, first the
nondealer, the dealer, and the dealers crib. The card that was cut earlier
from the remaining cards, is used as a fifth card in scoring each hand.
Scores are made same as above plus additional scores for:
* 2 Points - FIFTEEN (any combination that adds up to 15)
* 6 Points - DOUBLE RUN (J,Q,Q,K)
* 9 Points - TRIPLE RUN (J,Q,Q,Q,K)
* 8 Points - DOUBLE RUN OF FOUR(10,J,Q,Q,K)
* 12 Points - QUADRUPLE RUN (J,J,Q,Q,K)
* 4 Points - FLUSH (if cut card same suit then 5)
(crib must have 5 same suit)
* 1 Point - NOBS (holding jack of same suit as cut card)
After all three hands have been shown and points totaled, it becomes the
nondealers turn to deal. The dealer deals six cards to each player, and
another hand is played.
The game is won when someone scores 121 points.
