  2.                                  ARTICLE III
  3.  
  4. Section 1.    The judicial power of the United States shall be
  5.               vested in one Supreme Court, and in such inferior
  6.               courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain
  7.               and establish.  The judges, both of the Supreme and
  8.               inferior courts, shall hold their offices during good
  9.               behavior, and shall, at stated time, receive for
  10.               their services a compensation which shall not be
  11.               diminished during their continuance in office.

  13. Section 2.    The judicial power shall extend to all cases, in law
  14.               and equity, arising under this Constitution, the laws
  15.               of the United States, and treaties made, or which
  16.               shall be made, under their authority; to all cases
  17.               affecting ambassadors, other public ministers, and
  18.               consuls; to all cases of admiralty and maritime
  19.               jurisdiction; to controversies to which the United
  20.               States shall be a party; to controversies between two
  21.               or more States, between a State and citizens of
  22.               another State, between citizens of different States,
  23.               between citizens of the same State claiming lands
  24.               under grants of different States, and between a State
  25.               or the citizens thereof, and foreign states, 
  26.               citizens, or subjects.

  28.               In all cases affecting ambassadors, other public
  29.               ministers and consuls, and those in which a State
  30.               shall be a party, the Supreme Court shall have
  31.               original jurisdiction.  In all the other cases before
  32.               mentioned, the Supreme Court shall have appellate
  33.               jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with such
  34.               exceptions and under such regulations as the Congress
  35.               shall make.

  37.               The trial of all crimes, except in cases of
  38.               impeachment, shall be by jury; and such trial shall
  39.               be held in the State where the said crimes shall have
  40.               been committed; but when not committed within any 
  41.               State the trial shall be at such place or places as
  42.               the Congress may by law have directed.

  44. Section 3.    1.  Treason against the United States shall consist
  45.               only in levying war against them, or in adhering to
  46.               their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.  No 
  47.               person shall be convicted of treason unless on the
  48.               testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or
  49.               on confession in open court.

  51.               2. The Congress shall have power to declare the
  52.               punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason
  53.               shall work <« corruption of blood »> or
  54.               <« forfeiture »> except during the life of the person
  55.               attained.
