  3.   LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
  4.   The State  of Tennessee issues  an eight (8)  digit numeric drivers
  5.   license number with no spacing or delimiting characters between the
  6.   digits.   License  numbers   are  sequentially   issued,  with   no
  7.   correlation between licensee's personal identifiers and the license
  8.   number: (nnnnnnnn)

  11.   DOCUMENT:
  12.   The plastic laminated license,  has reflective gold "TENNESSEE" and
  13.   state seals  forming a security pattern.  Prior photo licenses were
  14.   in  a clear  plastic pouch.  Non photo  current licenses  display a
  15.   security  pattern in  the data  area, with  earlier issues  of this
  16.   format  having a  plastic covering.  Pervious paper  license was of
  17.   heavy paper stock with a security  pattern and no laminate. Type of
  18.   license  is indicated  by color  of photo  backdrop, with white for
  19.   regular  licenses. Current  photo  license  has state  district and
  20.   camera  number at  bottom of  photo edte.  Previous issues of photo
  21.   licenses have state  seal and camera number over  photo edge. Paper
  22.   license  shows  a  state  seal  while  plastic license displays the
  23.   division  logo   in  upper  left  corner.   Non-photo  license  has
  24.   authorizing signatures on fold- back side of license.

  27.   TERM:
  28.   License is valid  either three (3) or seven  (7) years, expiring on
  29.   the driver's birthday. Photo licenses  issued subsequent to July 1,
  30.   1991, may  be extended 4 years  (5 years if after  January 1, 1993)
  31.   with sticker placed on back of license.

  34.   MINORS:
  35.   Minor's  license  since  March  1989  indicated  by  red band under
  36.   heading  reading  "UNDER  21  DRIVER  LICENSE",  with  a  red photo
  37.   backdrop and red "UNDER 21" on front and back of laminate. Previous
  38.   issues were identified by profile photo of driver.

  41.   CDL:
  42.   To  indicate  a  commercial  driver  license,  "CDL" appears in the
  43.   shadowed  box below  21st birthday  header. Non  photo CDL's are no
  44.   issued.
