USDL Version 1.0 README.DOC Copyright (c)
1994, John Bailey and Task Force Software
WELCOME
Welcome to USDL, the most comprehensive driver license and
identification document reference and validation program available.
Please remember to remain in contact with Task Force Software for
future upgrades of the program, as documents and validation
algorithms change continuously. You can expect an upgrade at least
once each year, usually in February or March.
DISCLAIMER
The USDL program has been tested for accuracy to the extent
possible. However, it is only a reference utility, and we disclaim
any responsibility for any loss resulting from use of the program.
Users accept the program without warranty as to suitability for any
particular purpose.
YOU CAN HELP
We will do our best to keep up with changes in state laws, and with
popular forms of identification. If you are aware of a popular form
of identification or have special knowledge of an algorithmic
validation routine not included here, please contact us. We would
like to keep this the most comprehensive package available, and
will trade a FREE LIFETIME UPGRADE CERTIFICATE for any algorithm or
other material we actually use in the package. We are especially
interested in obtaining the drivers license algorithms for New
Jersey and for all the Canadian provinces that use an algorithm to
generate their license numbers. Thank you.
SPECIAL THANKS
I would like to offer special thanks to a group of folks that were
instrumental in bringing this package together. First, to my wife
and partner, Sherry, for her support, encouragement, data input,
and alpha testing. You have always been the best thing that ever
happened to me...
Also, to a number of members of the intelligence and law
enforcement community who assisted in gathering algorithmic
information and sample material for testing. They include: Nathan
Kellog, Bob Kowalkowski, Robert Lesnick, Pete Hegge, Fred McDaniel,
Paul Briggs, Terry Roth, Craig Pradarelli, and others who prefer
not to be mentioned here. Special thanks also to all those who
believe in, and fight to keep the "public" in "public records".
Keep the faith.
USING USDL
USDL is designed to be "user friendly" (as if there is really such
a thing for the inexperienced computer user). It's arrangement is
fairly straightforward. If you try the program, and it does not
behave as you expect, try the help files. If you still cannot
figure it out, REGISTERED USERS can call the Task Force for
technical assistance DURING BUSINESS HOURS, PACIFIC TIME.
Though we have done our best with the program, we are not perfect.
If you find an error in the program, please contact us. If the
error really exists, and we "fix" it, you will receive a free copy
of the next upgrade.
Registered copies of USDL come packed with nearly a hundred files
of reference material and helpful information, covering each
subject shown at the main selection menu.
Driver's licenses:
Reference and help files for driver licenses contain information
about:
∙ license number format, including coding break down;
∙ the license document, including validation information;
∙ terms of licensure;
∙ commercial license;
∙ minor's license;
∙ manufacturer of the license document; and more.
Coverage for this information includes the entire United States and
Canada. The interactive modules for driver licenses can provide
validation information and assist with motor vehicle department
inquiries.
Credit Cards:
Reference and help files for major credit cards contain information
about the card number format, and the interactive checksum
validation routines can provide validation of numbers for several
major credit cards.
Canadian Social Insurance Card:
Reference and help files for the Canadian Social Insurance number
permit checksum validation, and provide valuable information useful
in deterring fraud.
If you like the interface, and feel the USDL program would be
beneficial in providing your company the ability to screen license
and other identification documents or conducting other
investigative inquiries, contact:

You may also be interested in our Social Security Number validation
program, SSN. This little utility allows input of a Social Security
Number, and returns the YEAR OF ISSUE, and the state of issue for
the series entered. The program also provides verbose output
regarding invalid series entered. SSN also provides for disk file
and printer output as well. Contact Task Force Software as shown
above for more information.
If you or your company require investigative support services, you
may want to contact the Inter-Agency Task Force at the address
above. We provide a wide range of support services to a broad
spectrum of clients.
