FILE DIALOG HELP
The file dialog box is used to choose an output disk file for the
reports you will run with USDL. Each time you strike <enter> in an
interactive module, or request to view a text reference file, all
of the information will also be saved to the output file you have
chosen. All of the disk writes are appending, so the file will grow
if you run lots of reports...
[ ] Output to File: (checkbox)
This is the toggle to turn file output ON or OFF. When you first
invoke the file dialog box, your cursor will be in this check box.
You can activate the toggle by pressing your space bar, or by
clicking in the box with your mouse.
Once you toggle the file output to ON, the remainder of the file
output dialog controls will appear:
[X] Output to File: (input box)
The easiest way to set an output file name is to type a path and
file name into the box to the right of the "Output to File:"
caption, and press <enter>. You will be returned to the program
proper, and all program output will be captured to the file you
chose.
You may also use the other controls as you would in most interfaces
of this type. You can highlight a file, then strike <enter> or
"press" the OK command button with your mouse. Navigation through
disks and directories is most easily learned thorough
experimentation, so try tabbing and selecting or mousing and
clicking until you have the hang of it.
You can always tell if a file is selected for output by invoking
the disk output menu choice again from the program. The dialog box
will open with all controls displayed, and the output file name
displayed in the "Output to File:" box. TO stop file output, just
unselect the "Output to File:" checkbox either by tabbing to it and
pressing the space bar, or by clicking on it with your mouse.
Return to the main program by pressing the cancel button or by
pressing <escape>.
If you wish to search through a large number of files and want to
restrict the file listing to a particular mask, you may enter the
file mask (for example, *. TXT or REPORT.*) in the "Output to
File:" box and strike <enter>. This action will mask the files you
do not wish to choose from and perhaps speed your work.
