ALABAMA
LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
The State of Alabama issues a seven (7) digit numeric drivers
license number with no spacing or delimiting characters between the
digits. License numbers are sequentially issued, with no
correlation between licensee's personal identifiers and the license
number: (nnnnnnn)
DOCUMENT:
The plastic photographic card, manufactured by NBS, Imaging Systems
Division, is heat embossed with the license number and the driver's
date of birth. The driver's photograph appears in the lower left
corner of the license, and a red Alabama state seal should straddle
the right edge of the photograph. The driver's Social Security
Number should appear on the face of the license.
TERM:
License is valid for four (4) years from the DATE OF ISSUE.
MINORS:
Minor's licenses show a heat embossed star to the right of the date
of birth for drivers who were under 21 on the date of issue.
CDL:
To indicate a commercial driver license, a small box with the
letters "CDL" should appear to the right of the embossed date of
birth as in the example below:
