  8.        1.  USER OVERVIEW

  10.        This document contains information for using the features of
  11.        the PMIS system.  It can be viewed on line by selecting the
  12.        User option on the Misc. screen or a hard copy can be
  13.        printed by selecting the Print Manual option on the Misc.
  14.        screen.

  16.        The Personal Management Information System (PMIS) is not
  17.        just another check book program.  It is "THE" check book
  18.        manager that incorporates all the best features of past and
  19.        present check book programs that have inundated the Personal
  20.        Computer world.  PMIS provides a personal budget system that
  21.        is fully integrated with the check book database.  Also,
  22.        PMIS includes an Engagements feature that provides a desk
  23.        calendar and and an appointment manager.  A credit card
  24.        manager is available to record all transactions for a
  25.        virtually unlimited number of credit cards.  Finally, an
  26.        address book/mailing manager is included that provides a
  27.        very flexible, user defined personal database that allows
  28.        categorizing that is limited only by the user's imagination.

  30.        While PMIS cannot provide all things for all people, it is
  31.        extremely flexible, its set up screen providing the user the
  32.        opportunity to customize each individual installation of
  33.        PMIS.

  35.        The highlights of the check book managing feature of PMIS
  36.        are its ability record all check, cash, deposit and service
  37.        charge transactions, to print checks in any user defined
  38.        format, to maintain a list of "frequent payees" accessible
  39.        to the user from an indexed table, to print mailing labels
  40.        of the "frequent payees" that never include self addressed
  41.        envelopes, to "post" canceled checks, to search for and edit
  42.        data in the database, to display or print reports of user
  43.        selected transactions, to optionally record transactions in
  44.        user defined budget categories, to provide data backups, to
  45.        create new databases for new fiscal or calendar years and
  46.        set up a customized user environment.

  48.        The highlights of the personal budget feature of PMIS are
  49.        its ability to define up to 999 budget categories, to record
  50.        all check book and cash transactions in the selected budget
  51.        category, to keep records of current expenditures and number
  52.        of transactions in comparison to budgeted amounts and to
  53.        print or display user selected information for any or all
  54.        budget categories.

  56.        The highlights of the engagement feature are its ability to
  57.        record single or recurring appointments, delete them, and
  58.        mark them as kept or broken.  An itinerary may be generated

  74.        for a single or a range of dates that either displays or
  75.        prints a variety of appointment types selected by the user.
  76.        A calendar function allows the display of the current
  77.        month's calendar or any year and month between years 100 and
  78.        2999.  The current month calendar displays appointments
  79.        pending for that month.

  81.        The credit card manager is integrated with the checking
  82.        account feature such that any checks issued against the
  83.        credit card will adjust its balance accordingly.  The user
  84.        has the ability to record, edit, delete, search, post and
  85.        display or print credit card reports for any single credit
  86.        card or all credit cards in the system.

  88.        The address book/mailing manager has been designed to
  89.        provide the most flexible database for almost any
  90.        perceivable user.  Up to 25 user defined attributes can be
  91.        assigned to each entry.  The user can define a very
  92.        extensive set of categories and append the applicable
  93.        attributes as needed.  The output of a search can be
  94.        displayed on the screen, printed on the printer, or mailing
  95.        labels generated for them.  Attributes can be added or
  96.        deleted, and the database is updated accordingly.
