January 18, 1994 Version 1.50ß
--- SETUP FOR SLBIO -------------------------------------------------
To run SLBIO on SLBBS as a DOOR setup as follows:
1. Command Name ................. SLBIO <any name can be used>
2. Command Key .................. S
3. Description .................. SLBBS User Biography
4. Access Levels [...]
5. Door Command ................. SLBIO.EXE [path to CONFIG.SL2]
6. Directory Path ............... C:\SLBBS\SLBIO\
7. Comm Support ................. Standard
8. Abort Method ................. Terminate
9. Write Protect ................ No
10. Parameter File ............... None
11. Pause After Door ............. Yes
The only parameter that SLBIO requires is the full path to
Searchlites CONFIG.SL2 file. SLBIO will load the users SLBBS data
record and get the rest of its information from that.
If you want to run SLBIO LOCALLY without SLBBS loaded then just
type SLBIO LOCAL at the command line and it will prompt you for a
user name. NOTE: Any local login is given SYSOP privelages.
--- REGISTERING THE PROGRAM -----------------------------------------
Before you are allowed to use SLBIO you must register it. This
comes pre-registered with a temporary registration key that is good for
about 3 months. Once that time is up you will either have to send me
E-Mail to check on a new Temporary registration code, download the
newest version or (and BEST of ALL) register the program. That is the
reason REGISTER.EXE is included with this release, so WHEN you register
the program you will be able to re-register the SLBIO.EXE program with
your correct information.
*DO NOT RUN THE REGISTER.EXE PROGRAM without knowing your registration key
it will re-register your program as UNREGISTERD with an invalid code and
make it un-usable! Of Course all you have to do is re-Unzip it if you still
have the original zip file.
The Temporary information registered on this release is as follows:
Name: Trial Membership
BBS: UNREGISTERED
KEY: XX XX XXXX XXX XXX (Key not displayed at this time)
--- FILE COMPATIBILITY ----------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, I made so many changes to so many of the files and
records that I couldn't make a conversion program that would save
enough of the users original data intact to make any sense. Due to
the fact that you can set up many of the questions to suit your own
taste it also was not feasible, their answers would have been all
wrong. So before you install this version you will need to delete all
your old *.SLB files or you'll get a plethora of Fatal Errors.
--- PROGRAM CONFIGURATION ------------------------------------------
To configure SLBIO log into the program as the SYSOP (SYSOP is
defined as any USER account with message access of 255 or ANY LOCAL
login) and you will be given the option to Configure the program on
the main menu [C]. Use this option and change the options as you wish
them to be. Opt1 and Opt2 are explained below. The SexQs and ProfileQs
allow you to turn off those respective blocks of questions.
--- NOTES ----------------------------------------------------------
I took out the verbatim "Turn'ons" and "Turn Offs" because some
people did not like this option on all the time because it added a
sexual overtone to even the General setup. So now these two fields
are configurable using the [C] command when logged in as the SYSOP.
They show up as Option 1 and Option 2 and by default they are now
"Likes" and "Dislikes", you can make them ask for whatever you wish.
Give them up to a 15 character tag and the user can enter a 60
character response for each of them.
Also in this version, the Personality profile is completely
configurable upto 15 options rated from 1-100. Just use your favorite
text editor and edit the CUSTOM.DAT file, the instructions are
included in the file and my defaults are already setup correctly as an
example. It would probably not be a bad idea to make a backup copy of
this file in case you mangle it.
--- NOTES FOR THE FUTURE ---------------------------------------------
I am planning to spice up the program even further and try to
make it more generic and more configurable as I go along so it can
suit just about anyone. I will also hammer out the Match Maker
program to work more precisely as best I can, So don't plan to get
married on what it says so far (stop that choking I know it was a bad
joke but its late!).
--- CLOSING ARGUMENTS -----------------------------------------------
Well I know these docs are terribly lame but I prefer to spend
all my time coding. If you have any questions or would like to get the
latest version of SLBIO call Joint Venture BBS at 404-980-0123 for
free updates in the MYWARE directory on the first call!
Oh, sorry I resorted to that lamo 10 second pause for the
unregistered versions but If I get any response at all I'll probably
hose that out and just hope that my reg scheme keeps people honest
enough. So remember to support the ShareWare concept whenever you
can!
enjoy and lay off the twinkies!
