"Formally RAnews"
Name was changed because of confusions with another news program
with the same name.
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of NEWSplus must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
NEWSplus is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the
warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of NEWSplus."
NEWSplus is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using NEWSplus and continue to use
NEWSplus after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
istration payment of $15.00 to Software Plus The $15.00
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
You are encouraged to pass a copy of NEWSplus along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
will receive a copy of the latest version of the NEWSplus system.

Instructions:
NEWSplus is very simple to use, place NEWSplus in your BBS
directory and type NEWSplus.
You will see a short Shareware screen, then you will come to the
main menu.
We will start with the setup area first to set the program for
your BBS system, and other options.
Scroll down to the setup menu, here you will be presented with a
few setup selections.
SELECTION 1. Lets you select you BBS Package.
SELECTION 2. Allows you to select the directory that your news
and bulletin files are stored.
SELECTION 3. Is where you can setup a default for another news
bulletin file including filename and directory.
This will creat a tempory file calle ANEWS.TMP
and will use this file each time you update this
file... GOOD for other bulletins other than your
BBS's standard NEWS files.
SELECTION 4. asks you for your ANSI editor ( only needed if you
are manually going to edit an ANSI file)
SELECTION 5. Primary and secondary colors. this option is by
default set to 0, this allows you to select a
different color for your bulletins each time
NEWSplus is run. Or change them to any of the
selectable colors to automatically colorize you
bulletin with the same colors each time you run
NEWSplus.
SELECTION 6. Enter your serial # here when you register.
SELECTION 7. Enter the editor you wish to use like Qedit or
DOS's Editor (EDIT). Any editor that lets you pass a
file name to it should work fine.
SELECTION H. This area gives you the option to add a header file
to your news bulletin. If you select yes NEWSplus
will automaticly add a header file when you create
your news files. select no and news plus will by-
pass the header file. or select Ask and NEWSplus
will ask you each time you create a news file if you
want the header file added.
** NOTE **
HEADER FILENAMES:
ANSI FILENAME: NEWSPHDR.ANS
ASCII FILENAME: NEWSPHDR.ASC
SELECTION P. In this section you can have the ANSI and ASCII news
files show simulated paper tear lines every 25 lines
this makes it look like one screen of text is a
piece of paper that can be ripped of the other like
normal pinfed computer paper. or select no and it
will look like continuous paper.
SELECTION V. Allows you to change the default screen from color
to mono for monochrome monitors (or mono VGA).
SELECTION S. Save changed settings.
USING NEWSplus:
As for the rest of the program, just select the NEWS file
you want to edit or create. you will then be taken to your
editor, If this is your first time using NEWSplus it will crate a
file NEWS.TMP or ANEWS.TMP that will be automatically converted
to the ANSI and ASCII bulletin files. don't delete these .TMP
files or you won't be able to add new news to old bulletins, if
you want fresh bulletins then deleting the .TMP files would be
ok.
Now when in the editor just type in what you want in your
bulletin, do not go past margin 68 or some of your text may be
lost in the conversion. (Qedit 3 allows you to set margins) after
your finished save your file and exit the editor, you will now be
shown a color menu, and be prompt for the primary color
selection, enter the color you want for the first selection, then
you will be asked for the secondary color if you select a
different color you will get a bar paper effect on the ANSI news
file, or just single color paper if you select the same color (
or press enter for the same color ).
After you have selected the colors, you will be prompt if you
want to add a header (depending on how you setup the header file
in the setup section) then you will see the conversion take place
on screen, and the file will be copied to your text file
directory in both ANSI & ASCII formats.
NEWSplus also lets you edit any ASCII or ANSI file without
conversion by selecting the appropriate selection on the main
menu.
