  33.  - When  we  refer  to  the  FDL-  and FDP-package, we mean the  program
  34.    called FileDoor  <tm> and  all related  documentation, support  files
  35.    and such, as combined in the release package;
  36.  
  37.  - Users of the FDL-package must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  39.  - The  FDL-package  is  supplied  as  is.   The  author  disclaims  all
  40.    warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,  the
  41.    warranties of merchantability  and of fitness  for any purpose.   The
  42.    author assumes  no liability  for damages,  direct or  consequential,
  43.    which may result from the use of the FDL-package;
  44.  
  45.  - The  FDL-package  is  a  "shareware  program"  and is provided at  no
  46.    charge to the user for evaluation.   Feel free to share it with  your
  47.    friends,  but  please  do  not  give  it  away  altered or as part of
  48.    another  system.   The  essence  of  "user-supported"  software is to
  49.    provide personal  computer users  with quality  software without high
  50.    prices, and yet to provide  incentive for programmers to continue  to
  51.    develop new products.

  53.  - If  you find  this program  useful and  find that  you are  using and
  54.    continue the  use of  the FDL-package  after a  30 days trial period,
  55.    you must register the FDL-package as described below;

  57. - Non-commercial  can  get  a license  for  the usage of the FDL-package
  58.   for a  small  amount  of money. Look into the details in REGISTER.FDL.
  59.   For  Non-commercial  users there  is a POSSIBILITY to submit to one of
  60.   the special contracts as  explained in the file REGISTER.FDL.

  62.  - Commercial usage of  FDL will cost somewhat  more. Also, a so  called
  63.    'closed' Bulletin  Board System  (a system  where the  user must  pay
  64.    direct to the  SysOp to get  full access) is  has to pay  more than a
  65.    Non-commercial  user.  Both  types  of  users  should  look  into the
  66.    details in REGISTER.FDL;
  67.  
  68.  - The registration of the FDL-package will license ONE copy for use  on
  69.    any computer at any  one time, as long  as the usage confirms  to the
  70.    type of registration you have done (so NON-commercial usage when  you
  71.    have a non-commercial license);
  72.  
  73.  - Anyone  distributing  the  FDL-package  for any kind of remuneration
  74.    must  first   contact  the   Author   at   the  address   above   for
  75.    authorization.
  76.  
  77.  - You are  encouraged  to  pass a copy   of the FDL-package  along   to
  78.    your friends  for  evaluation.   Please  encourage  them to  register
  79.    their copy if they find that they can use it;

  81.  - Support  on  FDL,  when  used  in  a  non-commercial environment,  is
  82.    available  by  means  of  written  letters  or by entering the inter-
  83.    national echomail area DISP;

  85.  - Problems and suggestions can be entered in the FidoNet <tm>  Echomail
  86.    conference <tm> called DISP (international). Entering this echo  does
  87.    not  exclude  you  of  the  duty  to register the FDL-package, though
  88.    users who evaluate the product can enter the echo for questions;

  90.  - The  FDL-package, all  programs, the  documentation and support-files
  91.    is  copyrighted  1990,94  by  Robert  W.  van  Hoeven,  PO.  Box 131,
  92.    Badhoevedorp 1170AC, Holland. All  rights are reserved. You  may copy
  93.    this  package  for  backup  purposes.  Also  you  may  copy and share
  94.    unmodified copies of the whole package, providing that the  copyright
  95.    notice    is    reproduced    and    included    on    all    copies.
  96.    Excluded from this statement  are the support-files written  by other
  97.    authors.  Please  refer  to  the  documentation of these programs for
  98.    copyrights and license agreements;

  100.  - It  is  forbidden  to  modify,  adapt,  translate, reverse  engineer,
  101.    decompile  and/or  disassemble  the  software  in  the   FDL-package.
  102.    Patching the medium at  places that carry the  software is seen as  a
  103.    program change and is also forbidden. It is forbidden to create a  so
  104.    called 'bypass' to skip the original introduction screens and  delay.
  105.    Also it is forbidden  to use such a  'bypass' unless supplied by  the
  106.    author (Robert W. van Hoeven) himself;

  108.  - Performing  any  of  the  illegal  actions as stated in the previous
  109.    lines,  is  a  theft  and  no  fair  play  to  the  author  and, more
  110.    important, to the registered users;

  112.  - Bulletin Board  Systems that distribute  the FDL package  can convert
  113.    the WHOLE package  to any archive-system  they like but  all original
  114.    files must  be included  in the  new archive.  The FDL-package on the
  115.    Bulletin Board  can contain  at the  most 2  extra files. These files
  116.    can only be  a commercial for  that Bulletin Board  and/or validation
  117.    data that is presented  as a service to  all users and shall  have no
  118.    other functions;

  120.  - After  the normal  trial period  of 30  days, you  must register  the
  121.    soft- ware (see REGISTER.FDL) or you must remove it from your PC;

  124.    answered as soon I have the time  to do so. You can send me  a letter

  137.  There are several  ways to register  the usage of  the FDL-package. All
  138.  is depending on the environment where FDL will be running.

  142.  NON-Commercial registration

  145.  When  you  use  FDL in a non-commercial environment, you must pay for a
  146.  license  to   use FDL. Payment of the registration fee entitles you to:
  147.  
  148.  - The license for running 1 copy of the FDL-package in a non-commercial
  149.    environment on 1 computer at any one time;
  150.  
  151.  - A diskette with the latest copy of the FDL-package on 5 1/4 or 3  1/2
  152.    inch diskette (360/720 Kb, 1.2/1.44Mb);
  153.  
  154.  - A  special  file  to  enter  the  name of the owner (company) in  the
  155.    header of  FDL. This  file can  be used  on subsequent releases, also
  156.    those releases obtained from Shareware sources like a BBS;
  157.  
  158.  The price for a non-commercial license is US $ 35,--. So called 'closed
  159.  BBS's' have  to  read  the chapter on Commercial registration.

  163.  Commercial registration

  166.  When you use FDL in a commercial  environment or when you use FDL on  a
  167.  so called 'closed' BBS (this is a  BBS where the users must pay to  the
  168.  Sysop to  get full  access), you  must pay  for a  license to  use FDL.
  169.  This is only the case when you actually make money (you are a business
  170.  coorporation or a firm) from the BBS or the BBS is a backup for other
  171.  items you sell in a commercial way (support BBS).

  173.  Payment of the registration fee, entitles you to:

  175.  - The license for running ONE  copy of the FDL-package in a  commercial
  176.    environment on any computer at any one time;

  194.  Update service

  197.  Both  commercial  AND  non-commercial  users  can enter the update ser-
  198.  vice.  International  users  who  use  FDL commercial or non-commercial
  199.  will benefit most of this  feature. Paying the fee for  update service,
  200.  entitles you to:
  201.  
  202.  - Receiving every new release (minor  AND major) for the period of  one
  203.    year or   5 releases  (which ever  comes first)  on diskette media by
  204.    first-class Airmail;
  205.  
  206.  - The updates will  be send the same  day the new release  is submitted
  207.    to the support BBS (2:281/904 in Holland);
  208.  
  209.  - The  diskettes are  first-class (no  no-name or  white diskettes) and
  210.    will contain a special diskette label;
  211.  
  212.  The price for  update service is  US $ 15,--  for 3 1/2  inch diskettes
  213.  and US $ 20,-- for 5 1/4 inch diskettes.

  217.  Paying
  218.  ────────────────────────────────────

  220.  - By postal  money order or  international money order.  Normal cheques
  221.    (if they are not EuroCheques)  will cost me extra money  to transfer,
  222.    so add  US $  10,-- for  transfer if  you use  such a cheque. Cheques
  223.    that can not be collected  within a reasonable time, are  returned to
  224.    the sender;

  226.  - EuroCheque written out to :

  230.    EuroCheques MUST be written in your OWN or dutch currency and NOT in
  231.    US $ currency ! Don't forget your number on the back;

  233.  - Giro-cheques (only dutch) written out to the name above;

  235.  - Sending money directly, but please  make sure you send it with   some
  236.    kind of safety, so  you can make sure  yourself that I received   the
  237.    money. When  you send  money, you  can also  send money  in your  own
  238.    currency, but make sure  to use a valid  exchange rate. This is   the
  239.    exchange rate on the day you send the money to me;

  241.  In NO  way I  can accept  credit-card transfers.  If you  are not sure,
  242.  please contact me by normal mail !

  244.  Dutch users can also pay in  dutch money. Transfer the amount of  dutch
  245.  money in one  of the above  ways. Use the  exchange rate on  the day of
  246.  transfer as found in the newspaper of that day).
