RBSMDM v 1.1
By Bob Brumley - 06/29/93
Introducing the new RBBS 17.4 RBSMDM patchs for RBBS
This .DOC file was written for the original 17.3x series of merges we wrote
before we finally decided to break down and do a 17.4 upgrade but now we
have done it so the doc's dont change execpt you can see the file name to
run for the version of RBBS your running either 173mdm.bat or 174mdm.bat
for there respective versions. We orignaly wrote the RBSMDM10.ZIP file
and never needed to update is since there was never any bug's to repair, so
rather than have 2 files out there we just updated the name to RBSMDM11.ZIP
and include both the 17.3x and 17.4x versions of the merges.
First a little background is needed on me and these patches before
we begin. I have only been running RBBS for about 2 months and I recieved a
USR 16.8 Dual Std modem and tried to get it to work with RBBS 17.3b. To my
suprise I found I had to set X=0,S27=128 to disable all the extended result
codes returned by the modem because RBBS did not recognize any of them, even
the original dual std codes because of the extras added. So I went out to
find another way to make RBBS work to better with the modem than it was. I
ran across a set of patches to make RBBS recognize the 14400 connect messages
originaly written by Dave Brodmann of "Brodmann's Place" (301)-843-5732 and
I thought my problems were solved until I found it still would not recognize
the 16800 connect of the new USR dual std. So I went into the code and this
is what i came up with. It is partialy a mixture of Dave's patches and my own
These patches I have tested with RBBS 17.3b and 17.3c and found them
to work just fine, as for 17.4 I haven't had the chance to check close enough
yet to let you know but at first glance I believe they may, so bewarned,
Don't just apply them to 17.4 and expect it to work as I have not tested it
yet.
Included in this archive you will find the following files.
(1) 173mdm.bat to be used to apply the merges using BLED v2.2
(2) 173cfg1.mrg to be applied to config.bas source
(3) 173mdm1.mrg to be applied to rbbssub1.bas source
(4) 173mdm2.mrg to be applied to rbbssub2.bas source
(5) 173mdm4.mrg to be applied to rbbssub4.bas source
(6) 173mdm5.mrg to be applied to rbbssub5.bas source
(7) 173mdmpc.mrg to be applied to rbbs-pc.bas source
(8) 174mdm.bat Description's
(9) 174cfg1.mrg
(10) 174mdmpc.mrg
(11) 174mdm1.mrg for
(12) 174mdm2.mrg
(13) 174mdm4.mrg these files
(14) 174mdm5.mrg
(15) 174mdmpc.mrg same as above for 17.4x version of RBBS
After applying the merges to the rbbs source code you can take the
original MAKERBBS.BAT file supplied with the source code to compile
rbbs into and RBBS-PC.EXE file, and use the original MAKECFG.BAT file
to compile the new CONFIG.EXE file. You must have all the required *.OBJ
files and qbasic in the same directory as the source for the *.BAT files
to work. When completed you can run CONFIG and set your opening baud
rate to a max of 57600 baud and lock your com ports at the same, I have
found that all the door programs I run on my system still work just fine.
If you run and older door that won't support 57600 then you will have to
set it back to the original value but you will still have the ability to
at least log the proper baud connect rate in your callers file for each
caller. These patchs support modems that haven't even been built yet
such as the widely rummored 28800 baud from USR that I have heard may or
maynot ever be released, any baud rate up to 57600 is now supported so you
will not have to patch again for the new modem you get in the future.
Any baud rate you see listed in config's setup option is a valid baud
rate to be logged into the callers file.
As always I have tried and run these patches on my system with no trouble
at all, but some systems may choke on them so please try it on a backup copy
first. If you have trouble installing or getting the patches to work you can
contact me at my bbs the Cracker's Paradise (707)-838-4483 or RIME ->CRACKERS
If you do not want to install the patches yourself or feel you can't do
it let me know and I can make a compiled version available for you to dl from
my BBS. If you have any other merges installed into your system you will
have to upload a copy to me before I can install these for you or you will
not get a proper file in return as I install them into an unmodified original
RBBS source to start with. No modified copies are available for download
unless you specificly request one from me before you call the system.
As always with Public domain software use these patches at your own risk
as I can not be responsible for what happens as to loss of data etc., as I
am not a professional programmer, just a full time hobbiest as all us SYSOP's
are. I will be uploading a copy of these merges to Doug's BBS in hopes that
someday they will become a permanet part of RBBS since I believe it is a very
good BBS system and the more we add to it the better it will become. I think
RBBS set's a standard for BBS's across the nation and should continue to be
that way.
