FALCONER 1.0
DOCUMENTATION AND RELEASE NOTES

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FALCONER is a program which allows you to edit Falcon 3.0 squadron files.
You can easily change the names, call signs, ability scores, and fatigue
scores for your pilots, as well as "unfatigue" an entire squadron with a
single menu action.
FALCONER uses a basically CUA-compliant interface which I don't need to
explain in depth here. A brief overview:
Press ALT plus the highlighted letter to reach a menu. Use the arrow
keys or additional highlighted letters to activate a menu option.
In editing mode, you may use the arrow keys to highlight an attribute
you want to edit, then press ENTER to change the value of that attribute.
You may not enter values outside the normal range (0-100 or text,
depending on the field.)
To start editing a file, you need to select it using File Open from the
main menu. You will be given a list of active squadrons, their commanders,
and their numbers. Choose a squadron number. Its roster will appear on the
screen. You may not load an inactive squadron.
To unfatigue the squadron (change all fatigue scores to 100), you can select
Edit Unfatigue All from the main menu.
To edit particular attributes, select Edit Pilot Abilities from the main menu
and follow the instructions above. Press ESC to get out of edit mode.
When finished, select File Save from the main menu. The squadron file will
be saved and you can either load another squadron, continue editing, or
choose File Exit from the menu to leave FALCONER.

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION
This program tampers with Falcon 3.0 .SQU files in an unauthorized manner.
I have used it extensively without causing any problems. However, I cannot
_guarantee_ that it will not damage your .SQU files or cause Falcon 3.0 to
behave erratically. You MUST back up all SQUAD?.* files before using this
program if you want to have insurance against a possible failure.

RELEASE NOTES
This is Release 1. It embodies the most useful editing functions I could
think of. I am planning a Release 2 which will allow:
- pilots to be exported individually to disk
- ...and of course imported from disk as well!
- printouts of pilots by ability score rank
- editing of more attributes
- better documentation - this is pretty lame
However, I got it to this point, where it works and is as bug-free as I can
get it, and thought I should release it to you now. God only knows how long
it will take me to get Release 2 out, right? :)
