INTEGRATED SERVICES DIGITAL NETWORK - SINGLE LINE (ISDN-SL)
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
ISDN Single Line is a stand alone service that provides access to the ISDN
network over a single line. ISDN brings universal connectivity and end-to-
end digital transparency to the Public Switched Network. It provides high-
speed digital transmission, using a standard interface and allowing
simultaneous transmission of voice, data, and images over existing telephone
lines.
CAPABILITIES:
- End-to-end digital transmission over ISDN compatible network
facilities.
- Circuit-switched B channel data at speeds up to 64 Kbps Standard rate
adaptation for sub-64 Kbps speeds.
- Packet-switched data over B or D channels (multiple virtual packet
sessions on a single B or D channel).
- Out-of-band D channel signalling, a powerful and flexible mechanism for
call control, network management, and security.
- Electronic key system functionality.
The value of ISDN-SL lies in its productive applications. Its potential for
use in business and, ultimately, residential applications is virtually
limitless because ISDN is a network infrastructure. It is a communications
platform that provides the same universal and standard connectivity for data
and integrated voice/data as the public telephone network provides for voice-
only services.
Standardized CPE, available from various vendors, has been developed for use
with ISDN:
- Voice/data telephones, inverse muxes.
- RS232C and V.35 terminal adapters.
- RS449 terminal adapter.
- ISDN Personal Computer Terminal Adapters (PCTAs), mandatory
for work-at-home applications.
- Ethernet bridges.
- Token ring bridges.
Key technical capabilities of ISDN Single Line include:
- End-to-end digital transmission over ISDN-compatible network
facilities.
- Up to eight ISDN terminals on a single ISDN basic rate
interface (BRI) line.
- Circuit-switched B channel data at speeds up to 64 Kbps.
Standard rate adaption (V.120) for sub-64 Kbps speeds.
- Packet-switched data over B or D channels. B channel up to
64 Kbps. D channel at 9.6 Kbps.
- X.25 packet multiplexing over B channels; i.e., multiple
virtual D packet sessions on a single B channel.
- Calling party number delivery on incoming calls.
- Dynamic service selection over B channels. This powerful
capability can result in significant savings over
conventional non-PRI trunking.
- Out-of-band D channel signaling. This provides a very
powerful and flexible mechanism for call control, network
management, security, etc.
- Electronic key system functionality.
APPLICATIONS:
- Single line business customers who require reliability and
bandwidth flexibility.
- Telecommuters.
- Data Private Line users.
- Retail credit card verification.
- Any consumer database user.
- LAN-to-LAN bridging/routing with inverse mux.
- Provides universal voice/data network platform for advanced
business communications.
- ISDN digital transmission techniques significantly enhance the
quality of transmission.
- Customers can select the mode (circuit-switched or packet-
switched) that best fits the application, functionally and
economically.
- Provides on-demand access to countless features and configuration
through powerful D channel signalling.
