Evaluation
I feel that both Garrick and I demonstrated many
of the interpersonal communication skills we learned
during this semester. A communicating skill we both
effectively possessed, was our ability to volunteer
free information. We were good listeners and attended
to one another's ideas and messages well. In
particular, I feel my greatest strength is the ability
to initiate conversations by using open ended questions
and free information. Over all, our major strength in
our dyadic encounter, was our enthusiasm and
willingness to put forth the effort needed to
effectively communicate. The reason I feel strongly
about this is due to initial experience in which my
first partner showed no enthusiasm or willingness to
put forth effort.
The weaknesses we encountered involved
distractions. The encounter was distracted and
distanced when a third party, my boyfriend, entered the
dyad, making the situation tense. This, coupled with
our finding out that Garrick is 19 and I am 26 years
old, seemed to constrict the progression of the
relationship. Debilitative emotions prevented Garrick
and myself from progressing in the intimate manner we
had previously.
The encounter went very well considering the
limited time constraint we were given. For a
relationship to reach its' optimum potential, it takes
many years of interpersonal dyadic-encounters, which is
an infinent, never ending process.
