KHVH - Kaiser's Hawaiian Village Hotel.
Way back when, Kaiser, of Kaiser steel fame owned what is now called
the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. But the radio station, which
used to broadcast atop the hotel, still retains that call even though
their transmitter is now located elsewhere.
Jeff.
[P.S. Bill, could you please tell me the expiration date in the heading

A couple from the Southern Hemisphere:
2CBA-FM Christian Broadcasting Association
2DAY-FM (i.e. "Today" FM)
2MBS-FM Music Broadcasting System
2MMM-FM ("Triple Your Music... Triple M!")
2WS (now 2WS-FM) Western Suburbs (of Sydney)
2SER State (I think) Educational Radio
2RPH Radio for Print Handicapped
Australian station callsigns are a digit, followed by (usually)
2 letters for AM station, and three letters (+ "FM" though it's
as superfluous as announcing that the signal is stereo, which
so many seem compelled to do) for FM stations. 2SER and 2RPH
are exceptions to this, as is 2WS-FM)
The "2" (indicating New South Wales) lends itself to verbal puns
a bit better than the other numbers, though "4" (Queensland)
also has its possibilities...
In Ecuador, there is HCJB (Heralding Christ Jesus' Blessings);
I think of God *every* time I hear the station on 21,455 kHz,
usually because of the dreadful sound of religious music
coming in on single sideband :-)

More likely Light and Quiet...
Try this one on for size:
WDCR-AM - Dartmouth Campus Radio (broadcast, licensed)
and Dayton Campus Radio (carrier-current, not licensed, but has no signal
so it really doesn't matter)
and WVUD-FM Dayton Ohio... Voice of University of Dayton... this is
a 50K watt FM which until recently was licensed to UD, and may still have
it's broadcast facilities in their student union.

1270 is still WSPR. The license is now held by Edmund Dinis, who runs
Portuguese (NOT Spanish!) station WJFD-FM 97.3 New Bedford MA. Dinis
also holds a never-built CP for 1270 (!) WLAW New Bedford (originally
Fairhaven) MA. The hot speculation is that he bought WSPR so he
could run it for a few months, then surrender the license, so he can
boost WLAW's directional pattern to the WNW...i.e. towards Providence
and its huge Portuguese audience. Then he would sell WJFD-FM at a huge
profit (this is a 50kw FM serving Providence and south of Boston)
and move the Portuguese to 1270. We shall see...
I have been to the 1270 site in West Springfield. It is covered with
manure and smells REAL bad. You can see the 1270 sticks from the
Connecticut River along Rt. 5.

Subject: WFUV is having a problem receiving a federal grant
From: slutsky@tesla.njit.edu

New York Newsday reports that WFUV, the radio station of Fordham University
is having a problem with a $262,852 grant from the U.S. Department of
Commerce. Commerce Department officials rejected Fordham's 1993
National Telecommunications and Information Admiistration grant
application because its weekly religious broadcast violates a
department policy against funding noncommercial radio stations that
broadcast religious programs
The station manager of WFUV states that religious programming makes
up only one of 168 weekly programmig hours at WFUV. The grant would
have supplied at 25% of the $1 million needed to raise their
antenna to 300 feet to satisfy federal environmental regulations.
WFUV plays mostly contemporary folk music which is a refreshing
alternative to the programming of commercial stations. If you
are in the New York Metropolitan area, please give them a try.
