  3.                HOW TO MAKE GOOD FUSES FOR ALL YOU DUMB
  4.                        K-RAD ELITESTERS

  7.     Fast Burning Fuses
  8.  
  9.     The burning rate of this fuse is approximately 40 in. (100
  10.     cm) per minute.
  11.  
  12.     Material Required:
  13.     -----------------

  15.     Soft Cotton String           / Potassium Nitrate 25 parts
  16.     Fine Black Powder ------ or <  Charcoal           3 parts
  17.     Piece of Round Stick         \ Sulphur            2 parts
  18.     Two Pans or Dishes            \

  20.     Procedure:
  21.     ---------

  23.     1. Moisten fine Black Powder to form a paste or prepare a
  24.     substitute as follows:
  25.  
  26.           A. Dissolve Potassium Nitrate in an equal amount of
  27.           water.
  28.           B. Pulverize charcoal by spreading thinly on a hard
  29.           surface and rolling the round stick over it to crush to
  30.           fine powder.
  31.           C. Pulverise the sulphur in the sam manner.
  32.           D. Dry mix sulphur an charcoal.
  33.           E. Add Potassium Nitrate solution to dry mix to obtain
  34.           a thoroughly wet paste.
  35.  
  36.     2. Twist of braid three strands of cotton string together.
  37.  
  38.     3. Rub paste mixture into twisted string with fingers and
  39.     allow to dry.
  40.  
  41.     4. Check the actual burning rate of the fuse by measuring the
  42.     time it takes for a known legth to burn. This is used to
  43.     determine the lenght ned for the desired time.

  46.     Slow Burning Fuses
  47.  
  48.     The burning rate of the fuse is approximately 2 in. per
  49.     minute.
  50.  
  51.     Material Required:
  52.     -----------------
  53.     Cotton String or 3 Shoelaces
  54.     Potassium Nitrate or Potassium Chlorate
  55.     Granulated Sugar
  56.  
  57.     Procedure:
  58.     ---------
  59.     1. Wash cotton string or shoe lace in hot soapy water; rinse
  60.     in fresh water.
  61.  
  62.     2. Dissolve 1 part Potassium Nitrate or Potassium Chlorate
  63.     and 1 part granulated in 2 parts hot water.
  64.  
  65.     3. Soak string or shoelace in solution.
  66.  
  67.     4. Twist or braid three strands of string and allow to dry.
  68.  
  69.     5. Measure the actual buring rate like said above.

  72.     The last few inches of this cord (the end inserted in the
  73.     material to be ignited) should be coated with the fast
  74.     burning Black Powder Paste if possible. This MUST BE DONE
  75.     when the fuse is used to ignite the blasting cap.
