Renegade Fix Reply Chains
version 1.10S (c) 1994
By Carl Morris & Morris Softronics
NOTE: RGFRC is for Renegade 12-25+ and 286+ machines.
NEW: Opps again. RGFRC 1.10 would not work on machines running
without share.exe or other sharing systems.
NEW: You must have a 80286+ machine to run this program now.
Makes it a lot smaller and faster. However, the other new features
offset this both good and bad. RGFRC now records when it last
completed and only checks/updates bases that have been updated
since then. Multinode systems may not have good results with this,
but I think the majority of the poeple will like this speed
improvement, for the next features slow it down. RGFRC uses full
file sharing/locking when accessing the message bases. RGFRC can
now handle 64k of messages with out using disk space, but slows it
down resizing memory tables, and also may use up to 128k+ of
memory; however, it only takes what it needs to get the job done.
RGFRC will work correctly with FidoQWK imported messages.
WARNING: The file timestamp on RGFRC.EXE will change every time
RGFRC completes successfully. This is how RGFRC stores the
last-run timestamp for its 'turbo' processing. This may cause
problems for virus protection softwares.
Scott Freeman brought my worst fears to reality a long time ago
when he wrote a message to another saying he would have known who
wrote the original message had the replies been linked, which ment
I wasn't the only one! Its scary! Its true, there is no current
reply link importing on echo mail into the current RG format
message bases. JAM/Squish will change this, so this program will
only work on versions still using the older Renegade message base.
This program will with 75% accuracy link replies in all echo
message bases. It will take little time on most systems and the
selective updates of version 1.10 makes it optimum to run right
after importing with Renemail, even on multinode systems. It is
also a good idea to run it after maintainance or message packing,
as the message packers tend to lose the reply links.
USAGE: RGFRC [anything]
Simple huh? Just run it from your Renegade HOME directory, it
will read RENEGADE.DAT to get all the info it needs. It will print
the base name as it is processing; however, that does not mean it
is doing anything in that base. The [anything] option, which may
be anything but spaces/tabs/..., forces RGFRC to forget its last-run
timestamp, and process all echo areas anyway.
Support, bugs ....:
I am on SGA-NET @ 30:402/0 and receive all echos available
there. I am also on Fidonet @ 1:285/302 and Renegade Support Network
@ 50:420/1 however I have very little echos from either. I am also
a regional host for PSINet @ 67:68/0 203/0 100 and GameNET @ 888:2/0
101/0 1.
