Setting up your WWIV 4.xx for RenegadeNET support
This file will attempt to show you how to set up and receive RenegadeNET
mail and public messages as simply and as quickly as possible. Most the files
are all compiled by the area coordinator when updates are needed but some of
the files MUST be set up specifically for your BBS.
First and foremost, you should have obtained a copy of NETxx.ZIP and a copy
of the REN-xx.ZIP file for the proper version of NET that you will be running.
After you receive all the information, put the node number assigned to you in
place with the INIT.EXE program where you are prompted for the system number.
Then, place the files from the NETxx.ZIP in your main BBS dir and the files
from the REN-xx.ZIP into your DATA (or proper network path). If possible, we
ask that you put the Zmodem protocol program (DSZ.COM) in your BBS dir as well.
The program will enable the net to connect faster and enable data transmission
to be faster. After you have put the files in their proper directory, you
should get a printout of the CONNECT.NET files (either on the printer or the
screen. Look down the list until you see a line in which your node is the
first on the line. The node numbers next to it are the ones that were listed
as local to you. Now, you must set up the CALLOUT.NET file in your data
directory; use the following format:
@node1 &
@node2 &
@node3 &
and so on where the node1, node2, node2 are the BBSs listed after yours in that
file. Do not include the "=0.00" in the file (they are connect charges but
since we are going to try to keep the net locally netted, we shouldn't have to
worry about it) You are now set to receive netmail and all that remains in to
set up your netted subs. Setting up the subs is pretty easy and straight-
forward. Most of what it requires is that you create a file with the format
NNsubtype.NET containing the sub's host node like:
13000
and that's all there is in that file. You are automatically assumed to be
carrying subs 100 & 101 (The SysOp's Forum being 100 and the General forum
being 101), so the net files for those two subs will be sent with your
NETFILES.ZIP. You set the sub up by going into your BOARDEDIT routine and
setting the subtype to the respective sub number (ie, 101 for the General sub)
and assigning the post/read SL level like you would with any other sub. We ask
that you set these to at least a validated user access. This will help to keep
the net free from any junk posts from people who log on as a new user and post
garbage. You may send netmail immediately after setting up the *.NET files so
if you do not understand something about the process of setting up net subs,
send mail to user 1@13000 (The White Dragon) and I will try to get back to you
with an answer. You may also call the Whiplash Fantasy at (410)-836-3072 and
get a hold of TWD personally. Updated versions of the netfiles will be made
available on the fantasy so if you need the UPDATExx.ZIP (which is the current
group of files (BBSLIST.x, CONNECT.x and SUBLIST.REN), you may also download it
off of that node.
If you have a problem with any of the files, please contact the coordinator.
Do not attempt to fix it yourself. If you find that a node is local to you and
is NOT listed in the callout as being local and you wish to establish a connect
with it, let the coordinator know. He will update the files and inform the
SysOps. DO NOT take it upon yourself to do this.
If you are having problems with a sub, email the host. He or she will get back
to you. If you still have problems, email the coordinator and he will see if
the problem can be settled.
We ask that your tagline (should you have one) be no more than three lines
long. Smaller ones are preferred (two is the average) and that you do NOT use
raw ANSI codes. You may use ASCII symbols though.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
The White Dragon,
RenegadeNET Coordinator
