  6.          THE SECOND ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL EFF PIONEER AWARDS:
  7.                        CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
  8.                      Deadline: December 31,1992

  10. In every field of human endeavor,there are those dedicated to
  11. expanding knowledge, freedom, efficiency and utility. Along the
  12. electronic frontier, this is especially true. To recognize this,the
  13. Electronic Frontier Foundation has established the Pioneer Awards for
  14. deserving individuals and organizations.
  15.  
  16. The Pioneer Awards are international and nominations are open to all.
  17.  
  18. In March of 1992, the first EFF Pioneer Awards were given in
  19. Washington D.C. The winners were: Douglas C. Engelbart of Fremont,
  20. California; Robert Kahn of Reston, Virginia; Jim Warren of Woodside,
  21. California; Tom Jennings of San Francisco, California; and Andrzej
  22. Smereczynski of Warsaw, Poland.
  23.  
  24. The Second Annual Pioneer Awards will be given in San Francisco,
  25. California at the 3rd Conference on Computers, Freedom, and Privacy in
  26. March of 1993.

  28. All valid nominations will be reviewed by a panel of impartial judges
  29. chosen for their knowledge of computer-based communications and the
  30. technical, legal, and social issues involved in networking.
  31.  
  32. There are no specific categories for the Pioneer Awards, but the
  33. following guidelines apply:
  34.  
  35.    1) The nominees must have made a substantial contribution to the
  36.       health, growth, accessibility, or freedom of computer-based
  37.       communications.
  38.  
  39.    2) The contribution may be technical, social, economic or cultural.
  40.  
  41.    3) Nominations may be of individuals, systems, or organizations in
  42.       the private or public sectors.
  43.  
  44.    4) Nominations are open to all, and you may nominate more than one
  45.       recipient. You may nominate yourself or your organization.
  46.  
  47.    5) All nominations, to be valid, must contain your reasons, however
  48.       brief, on why you are nominating the individual or organization,
  49.       along with a means of contacting the nominee, and your own
  50.       contact number. No anonymous nominations will be allowed.
  51.  
  52.    6) Every person or organization, with the single exception of EFF
  53.       staff members, are eligible for Pioneer Awards.
  54.  
  55.    7) Persons or representatives of organizations receiving a Pioneer
  56.       Award will be invited to attend the ceremony at the Foundation's
  57.       expense.

  59. You may nominate as many as you wish, but please use one form per
  60. nomination. You may return the forms to us via email to
