  3. This is something a friend of mine in Europe sent me.  I think it is 
  4. of high value if you ever go to Europe to have this file printed
  5. out with you.  Read on.

  9. A guide to Europe:
  10.  
  11. As to the European scene if you are interested in having a high old 
  12. time over here then Amsterdam Copenhagen and Zurich are places not to 
  13. miss.
  14.     I haven't been to Copenhagen myself for over 15 years, but friends 
  15. who were there say that an area called Cristiania is the place to go. 
  16. It is a sort of large scale neo-anarchist pseudo-independent commune 
  17. where apparently mj of various types can be had if you look. Also the 
  18. Carlseberg and Tubourg breweries are worth a visit.
  19.     Amsterdam, need we say more. I was there last month and the price 
  20. was about 25 dutch guilders for 2g of hash or grass. a number of 
  21. different varieties are available. All you have to do is go into the 
  22. coffee shops and ask for a menu. It is fairly obvious which ones are 
  23. the pleasant twee little places for the "normal" tourists, and which 
  24. are the interesting coffee shops. There are also plenty of shady 
  25. characters who hang about the streets willing to sell you anything. 
  26. Don't buy hash or grass off them it'll cost you three times what it 
  27. costs in the coffee shops and is probably more offensive to the local 
  28. plod than buying it in the regulation outlets. The street sellers also 
  29. offer speed, heroin, coke, e, and acid (treeps). The one hit of acid I 
  30. bought (10 guilders) had no effect at all, so I rather think that 
  31. these annoying bastards are just out to rob you blind. There is also 
  32. the cannabis museum which is small but cheap enough to be worth a 
  33. visit. The area of interest is within 15 min walk of the central 
  34. station. As you walk over the bridge out of the station, veer slightly 
  35. to the left and you'll find it.
  36.     Zurich, well I've lived here for 20 months, with 3 left and I 
  37. still haven't quite figured the place out. It is the most bizarre 
  38. place I have ever lived. "The Park" where the scene used to be when I 
  39. arrived has closed down but what the hell did the authorities expect, 
  40. all the H users to simply go home and stop doing drugs. Foolish 
  41. really. Almost any drugs can be had on the street here. You can walk 
  42. past guys shooting up and dealers with little tables set out in front 
  43. of them with syringes, spoons and candles laid out. The police look on 
  44. and occasionally pick up the bodies. Unless you do dumb things like 
  45. take photos it is perfectly safe. You may even be able to pick up a 
  46. cheap stereo or mountain bike. At the moment the scene happens along 
  47. the river just near the station, a road called Shil Quai. If you come 
  48. out the front of the central station turn left so that you face the 
  49. National museum (a nasty pseudo gothic thing). Walk to your left past 
  50. the museum (Platzspits, literally needle park is behind it but now 
  51. closed) and you will come to a a bridge over the Shil. Cross this and 
  52. turn right down Shil Quai and almost instantly you will run into a 
  53. group of people selling hash. They stand on the side walk just by a 
  54. pedestrian crossing waiting for customers. The hash goes at a fairly 
  55. standard price of 100sf for a stick which is about 8-10g depending how 
  56. lucky you are. It is a standard price, but as there are usually at 
  57. least 5 to ten people selling you get a reasonable choice. I have also 
  58. seen some grass there but not a lot and mostly miserable quality. This 
  59. is also the place to get acid, keys, buddhas, dragons and peace 
  60. symbols have all been good value, avoid the planets and the palm trees 
  61. which have been found to be very weak.
  62.    If you go by and there is no one about hang out in the national 
  63. museum for an hour (the only reason you'd want to waste time in there) 
  64. and go back some one might have turned up. Further down Shil Quai you 
  65. will run into the junk. Heroin and cocaine freely available, you can 
  66. even get syringes if you really want. All very strange. The police 
  67. sort of move people around simply to keep them from hanging out in one 
  68. place and to allow the street cleaners a chance. This is Switzerland 
  69. after all. Usually there is some activity somewhere along Shil Quai. 
  70. If you walk all the way along you will eventually get to a road bridge 
  71. over the river. This is Kornhaus bruke, which marks the end of the 
  72. activity. There is a little foot bridge over the river here where the 
  73. scene moves to when the bill shoo them away from Shil Quai. If you get 
  74. up onto Kornhaus bruke and walk away from the river you come to Limmat 
  75. Platz. On Saturdays there is a small market there. Cross over and go 
  76. down the street opposite called Lang str. Not far down here you'll 
  77. come across a branch of Werner's Head Shop, there is another further 
  78. along Lang str and a third on Limmat Quai in the centre of town. The 
  79. two on Lang str sell useful things like pipes, bongs and leather 
  80. whips, the one in the centre of town sells T-shirts for the "normal" 
  81. tourists. The Lang str area is the red light district of Zurich and 
  82. certainly has more of an earthy feel to it than Bahnhoff str. and the 
  83. posh parts of town. Lots of immigrants live round here and there are 
  84. plenty of small but reasonable (for Zurich) restaurants and some good 
  85. Fallafel and Kebabs can be found.
  86.    At the other end of Lang str near Helvetia platz there is a flea 
  87. market on Saturdays at a place called Kanslei. The Kanslei flea market 
  88. is a junk market the place that goods get recycled. A more antique 
  89. style market takes place at Burkli platz right by the lake, and an 
  90. alternative but quite expensive market can be found in Rosenhof, a 
  91. little square off Neiderdorf str. Neiderdorf str is the place that you 
  92. will run in to all the conventional tourists and party goers. The 
  93. street is lined with bars and street performers.
  94.    The alternative guide to Zurich finishes at the lake, which in the 
  95. summer is fine to swim in. There are several swimbads where you can 
  96. pay to jump in the water and a couple of parks where you can jump in 
  97. for free. On hot summer evenings the parks along the north shore of 
  98. the lake turn into a zoo. People hang out sitting round fires and if 
  99. you were really desperate for a toke you could probably find some 
  100. stoners down there willing to share some with you. 
  101.    Switzerland's National day is August 1st and rather than doing 
  102. anything organized people just seem to buy shit loads of fireworks and 
  103. take them down to the parks by the lake and let them off. If you only 
  104. plan to spent one day in Zurich August 1st could be a fun day to pick. 
  105. The shops will all be closed, but the bars and restaurants will be 
  106. open and of course Shil Quai is the only place you can do 24 hour 
  107. shopping in this town.

  150. Cafe Zahringer is a sort of alternative cafe veggie food etc, nothing special
  151. but next to it is a bar the Bierflusse I think. It is amusing as it is one
  152. of the few gay bars in Zurich and the guys that hang out there can often 
  153. be outrageously dressed. The back area of the bar is hard core leather
  154. but the front appears quite normal except for the rather thick smoke.
  155. You can pick up some really good hash in here some times, much better
  156. quality than on Shil Quai. The only problem is that it is harder to spot
  157. the dealer here as he won't hawk his wares obviously. More expensive
  158. but worth the little extra.

  184. A couple of comments to your guide. This is based on my InterRail journey
  185. around the continental Europe last summer.

  195. You don't have to look for. When you come into Christiania, there'll
  196. be people hissing "hash" to your ears. Didn't test the quality at that
  197. time, though (I've had hash just two times). I visited Christiania just
  198. to really see what it is. And I kinda liked it. I think if one would like
  199. to buy anything there, he ought to go to the Cafe' Woodstock, near the main
  200. entrance. Anyway, ALL drugs are illegal in the Denmark, it's just that local
  201. authorities look Christiania through their fingers. And the Christianians
  202. don't want trouble with the authorities, so EVERYTHING BUT HASH/GRASS is
  203. explicitly FORBIDDEN in Christiania.

  211. Don't forget the Heineken brewery museum. Great place, they have (naturally:)
  212. English-speaking guides.. A tour lasts around 2 hours. 1 hour of knowledge
  213. about beer and brewing, including history of beer &c. 1 hour of beer;
  214. drink as much as you want. If you happen to have birthday when you visit
  215. there, they may have some surprise for you. And this guided tour costs
  216. (err.. not sure about this..) 2 guilders. Includes the beer. Hicc..BURP!
  217. Warning! Heineken beer is quite strong..
