'Calling the child to prayer' involves the father or holy man whispering in each ear the call to prayer heard every day in the mosque.
A few days later there may be a naming ceremony and some celebrations. Either simultaneously with that or later, the child's head will be ceremoniously shaved and alms given to the poor. This both purifies the child and protects him/her in the years to come.
