- Before we begin to describe the LottoMaster 128 program, we should
- explore some of the facts, myths, and theories of the pick 5/6 lottery.
- First of all, none of what I'm about to say is original with me...
- I've included a short list of recommended reading at the end for those
- of you who wish to learn more...
-
- Can you actually win the lottery? Or are the odds stacked up too
- much against you? Most of you are probably not aware of the odds of
- hitting the jackpot, so I'll quote them here;
-
- 6/30 - 593,775 to 1 6/42 - 5,245,786 to 1
- 6/36 - 1,947,792 to 1 6/44 - 7,059,052 to 1
- 6/39 - 3,262,623 to 1 6/48 - 12,271,512 to 1
- 6/40 - 3,838,380 to 1 6/49 - 13,983,816 to 1
-
- Now, looking at those odds, it would seem inconceivable that you
- could realistically hope to ever win... but I can name one person who
- has beaten the odds 9 times in a 20 year span... That's an average of
- one jackpot every two years... another person whom you may have seen
- on late night talk shows claims 72 winning tickets! So how do you
- beat the odds? Any gambler would tell you to learn the rules of the
- game and the best strategies to use... that is exactly what we are
- going to do.
-
- To start, let's examine how to greatly increase your winnings when
- you do win:
-
- How do the majority of people pick their 'lucky' numbers? I'll bet
- you already know the answer to that one... Anniversaries, Birthdays,
- etc... and what do they all have in common? numbers under 31! Now,
- if you happen to live in and play the California lottery, (as I do),
- you'll notice right away that 'date' numbers 1-31 leave the rest of
- the numbers 32-49 for the smart lottery players. Are you ahead of me
- yet? Take for example a winning combination such as 2-9-14-17-23-30:
- Can you imagine how many other people you'll be sharing your prize
- money with when you do win?
-
- As an example:
-
- In the New York State, Sept 24, 1983; drawing, the highest number
- drawn was 30. This was for a $4 million jackpot. After the 46 people
- divided the jackpot, there was only $62,000 for each. A nice piece of
- change, to be sure, but far from what those 46 people were expecting.
-
- One very useful way to make sure your numbers have a good 'spread'
- is to add them up... For example: If you play a '6/49', take the
- number 49 - divide by 2 then multiply by 6. This will give you the
- number 147. This is the average sum. Your numbers should sum up to at
- least 147. So *STOP* picking dates! Your chances of winning are
- identical with those who use dates, and when you win, you'll win much
- more!
-
- Next strategy, odd/even; very rarely has the winning combination
- been all even numbers or all odd. Most commonly, it's evenly split,
- 3 odd numbers and 3 even. You should do the same when you pick your
- numbers.
-
- In a 6/49 game, the odds favor odd numbers just slightly, since 49
- is an odd number. So if you stick with picking 3 odd and 3 even
- numbers, or 4 odd and 2 even numbers; your numbers will have a better
- chance of coming up.
-
- Now, pairs; six out of the last ten weeks in California have had
- neighboring pairs, ie, 33-34 or 8-9. Roughly two thirds of all
- winning combinations have a neighboring pair. Triplets show up a
- little less frequently. Quads such as (21-22-23-24) have been esti-
- mated at once every 200 games. Five in a row? Six? Forget it, 5 or
- 6 numbers in a row have never hit! So, pick a pair, but more than
- that and you are wasting your money and not playing lotto's 'best
- strategy'.
-
- Last, what method should you use to pick your numbers? A study of
- lottery games by mathematicians has shown that the majority of winning
- numbers have appeared within the preceding 10 games. As you study the
- 'weeks since last hit' chart, you will see trends and patterns in the
- way the numbers show up. Now, you may say, 'but isn't the lottery
- totally random?' Should be, but remember that the numbers are picked
- by a mechanical device! Truly random numbers are really much more
- difficult to come up with than most people realize. Even the 'random'
- numbers your C-64/128 comes up with are really only 'pseudo-random'!
-
- I suggest that you study all of the LottoMaster 128 charts, and decide
- on your own strategy for choosing numbers. Of course, staying within
- the strategy guidelines that I've shown you here. My own favorite
- method of choosing my numbers: I pick only numbers that have hit at
- least three times in the last 10 games, and also once in the last five
- games. Then I check out those numbers in the 'weeks since last hit'
- chart, and all the other charts. Then, I use my intuition,(some call
- it guesswork!) to eliminate or possibly add to my initial choices.
- After I've narrowed my choices to 10-18 numbers, I 'wheel' my numbers.
-
- I'm sure you've been wondering how to lower the odds of hitting the
- jackpot. There are really only two ways to do it. Pick more numbers
- (more than six), and buy more tickets! Now, let's take a typical
- example (it may have already happened to you!);
-
- You pick 12 numbers; 4,9,12,17,21,25,28,31,34,37,40,45.
-
- Now you say, that's enough numbers for two tickets, so you buy two
- tickets; #1 4-12-21-28-34-40, #2 9-17-25-31-37-45. When the drawing is
- held, let's see what happens... the winning numbers - 4,17,21,31,37,40
- You correctly picked all six numbers! But when you look at your two
- tickets, you have a grand total of three numbers on each ticket. You
- can't start planning your retirement yet!
-
- So how do you avoid this situation? You certainly can't play every
- single combination of 12 numbers. There's only 924 ways to play 12
- numbers, and I'm sure you don't have a spare $924 sitting around. The
- secret is to 'wheel' your numbers in combinations that guarantee a
- lower prize... For example, the following system guarantees a fourth
- prize (4 out of 6), if you correctly pick 5 numbers. The odds of get-
- ting the jackpot itself if you correctly pick six numbers is 1.9% To
- calculate the odds of winning the jackpot, divide ticket bought by
- total possible combinations. There are 924 ways of combining 12
- numbers in groups of six.
-
- So in the following system, 18/924=.0019, or 1.9% chance of having one
- ticket with six winning numbers. In LottoMaster 128, this is abbreviated
- 'TC/C'. (Stands for Total Cost divided by Combinations, or to put it more
- simply, total number of tickets purchased compared to total number of
- combinations possble) Now for the system example.
-
- 1. 01 02 04 05 07 10 7. 01 04 05 07 08 10 13. 02 05 06 07 09 11
- 2. 01 02 04 07 08 10 8. 01 04 05 07 10 11 14. 02 05 06 08 11 12
- 3. 01 02 04 07 10 11 9. 01 04 07 08 10 11 15. 02 05 08 09 11 12
- 4. 01 03 04 06 08 12 10. 02 03 05 06 08 11 16. 03 04 06 07 09 12
- 5. 01 03 06 07 09 12 11. 02 03 05 07 09 11 17. 03 04 06 09 10 12
- 6. 01 03 06 09 10 12 12. 02 03 05 08 11 12 18. 03 06 07 09 10 12
-
- Now, take your original number picks; 4,9,12,17,21,25,28,31,34,37,40,45;
- and set them equal to the system numbers 1-12;
-
- 1=4 2=9 3=12 4=17 5=21 6=25 7=20 8=31 9=34 10=37 11=40 12=45
-
- By substitution, the previous chart will give you the following
- tickets;
-
- 1. 04 09 17 21 28 37 7. 04 17 21 28 31 37 13. 09 21 25 28 34 40
- 2. 04 09 17 28 31 37 8. 04 17 21 28 37 40 14. 09 21 25 31 40 45
- 3. 04 09 17 28 37 40 9. 04 17 28 31 37 40 15. 09 21 31 34 40 45
- 4. 04 12 17 25 31 45 10. 09 12 21 25 31 40 16. 12 17 25 28 34 45
- 5. 04 12 25 28 34 45 11. 09 12 21 28 34 40 17. 12 17 25 34 37 45
- 6. 04 12 25 34 37 45 12. 09 12 21 31 40 45 17. 12 25 28 34 37 45
-
- With the same winning numbers of 4,17, 21,31,37,40; the 18 tickets
- contain 12 winning tickets! In games 1,2,4,10,12, 14,15; you got 3
- out of 6. In games 3, 7,8; you got 4 out of 6. And in games 8 and 9,
- you got 5 out of 6. Not bad for $18 worth of tickets! Of course this
- is just one of the many ways you can wheel your numbers. At the end
- of this file, you will find out where you can get many systems such as
- this one. LottoMaster 128 includes 34 wheeling systems ranging from a
- cost of $7 up to $56. If you can't afford to play some of the larger
- wheels, one idea is to join or form a lotto club. As an example, if
- 10 people each give $5/week to the club, you can play a much larger
- wheel than you can individually. The details of starting your own
- lotto club is beyond these instructions, I suggest that you get some
- of the books listed at the end of this file for information on start-
- ing a lotto club.
