  3. Article III.
  4.  
  5.   Sect. 1.      The judicial power of the United States shall be vested in
  6.              one Supreme Court, and in such inferior courts as the Congress
  7.              may from time to time ordain and establish.  The judges, both of
  8.              the Supreme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during
  9.              good behavior, and shall, at stated time, receive for their
  10.              services a compensation which shall not be diminished during
  11.              their continuance in office.

  13.   Sect. 2.
  14.          1.     The judicial power shall extend to all cases, in law and
  15.              equity, arising under this Constitution, the laws of the United
  16.              States, and treaties made, or which shall be made, under their
  17.              authority; to all cases affecting ambassadors, other public
  18.              ministers, and consuls; to all cases of admiralty and maritime
  19.              jurisdiction; to controversies to which the United States shall
  20.              be a party; to controversies between two or more States, between
  21.              a State and citizens of another State, between citizens of
  22.              different States, between citizens of the same State claiming
  23.              lands under grants of different States, and between a State or
  24.              the citizens thereof, and foreign states, citizens, or subjects.
  25.          2.     In all cases affecting ambassadors, other public ministers
  26.              and consuls, and those in which a State shall be a party, the
  27.              Supreme Court shall have original jurisdiction.  In all the
  28.              other cases before mentioned, the Supreme Court shall have
  29.              appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with such
  30.              exceptions and under such regulations as the Congress shall
  31.              make.
  32.          3.     The trial of all crimes, except in cases of impeachment,
  33.              shall be by jury; and such trial shall be held in the State
  34.              where the said crimes shall have been committed; but when not
  35.              committed within any State the trial shall be at such place or
  36.              places as the Congress may by law have directed.
  37.    Sect. 3.
  38.          1.     Treason against the United States shall consist only in
  39.              levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies,
  40.              giving them aid and comfort.  No person shall be convicted of
  41.              treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same
  42.              overt act, or on confession in open court.
  43.          2.     The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of
  44.              treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of
  45.              blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person
  46.              attained.
