Marty Friedman Scenes (Shrapnel)- For those of you who have heard Marty
Friedman formerly of Cacophony and now of Megadeth, this is unexpected!
Kitaro produces the first half of this record. Not surprisingly, the tunes
are instrumental and have a definitive New Age tone to them. Friedman puts
forth a strong effort here, but may confuse some of his fans undoubtedly used
to heavy crashing chords. For those that have heard Dragon's Kiss (his
prior Shrapnel solo effort), don't expect anything of the sort. There are
few flowing runs or high pitched artificial harmonics; instead, we have an
moody airy feel. The last tune makes use of a theme from a tune on Dragon's
Kiss, but in a completely different context, of course. If you like New Age,
get it. If you are into Marty, get it, but be prepared for something
completely new and different. (7)
