HISTORY FILE FOR AUTO-CONFIG
****************************
(c) 1993, Dr. A. Olowofoyeku
Release 6.10 (October 1993)
---------------------------
This is a maintenance release which fixes a number of minor
bugs.
Release 6.05 (June 1993)
------------------------
Shortcut key strokes introduced. When in the RUN, EDIT,
DELETE and COPY menus, the following key strokes are now
available;
Alt S = takes you into the "Setup" menu
Alt D = takes you into the "Delete" menu
Alt E = takes you into the "Edit" menu
Alt C = takes you into the "Copy" menu
When you exit from these menus you are returned to where you
were before pressing any of the "Alt" keys.
Release 6.00 (May 1993)
-----------------------
1. Some internal "rearrangements" (bug fixes, and a change of
the compiler used to produce AUTO-CONFIG). This should
result in performance gains.
2. A new command line parameter "/NEW" is introduced. This is
for users who are running AUTO-CONFIG for the FIRST TIME.
The /NEW parameter tells AUTO-CONFIG that this is a new user.
This will cause the program to make copies of the current
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. These are used to create
a new configuration item ("ORIGINAL"). Thus users can always
return to their original configurations by selecting this item.
3. The option to use a "286" version of AUTO-CONFIG (AUTO286.EXE),
for registered users. This is for those who have computers with
an 80286 (or higher) processor. The "286" version features modest
performance gains over the generic version. Users with XT class
computers should NOT run AUTO286.EXE.
Release 5.40 (February 1993)
----------------------------
"RUN" line is introduced for the INI file. This has been
introduced by request from users who wish to use disk caches
with the write-back cache turned on. In the past, when a
configuration item was being run and a write-back cache was
used, the changes to AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS would not
have been written to disk before the PC was rebooted.
The "RUN" line in AUTOCONF.INI remedies this. Basically
this line should contain any program, with the necessary
parameters, which you wish to run just before AUTO-CONFIG
reboots the PC. The command will normally be for the purpose
of flushing the write-back cache to disk.
Release 5.35 (February 1993)
----------------------------
1. The boot routine when a configuration item is RUN has been
changed from a WARM BOOT to a COLD BOOT. This is because a
warm boot leaves some things unchanged in memory.
2. Help can now be accessed from most parts of the program by
pressing F1
Release 5.30 (January 1993)
---------------------------
1. Change Directory function introduced. You can now change
working directories/drives from within AUTO-CONFIG
2. COPY function introduced. You can now copy an existing
configuration into another one. This is useful when creating
new configurations, as old ones can be copied and then edited.
This is also a response to users' requests.
Release 5.20 (November 1992)
-----------------------------
1. Some bug fixes.
2. INI file introduced so that users can use their own favourite
editors instead of the one supplied in AUTO-CONFIG. These
feature was introduced in response to requests from users who
were dissatisfied with the fact that the AUTO-CONFIG editor
will always wrap a line after 128 characters.
3. AUTO-CONFIG will now show the amount of free conventional
memory at the top left corner of the screen. This is for the
purpose of helping users decide whether there is sufficient
memory for running their editors (if they decide to use another
editor).
Release 5.10, (May 1992)
------------------------
1. On Line help introduced while in EDIT mode, accessed by pressing
F1
2. Fixed bug which reared it's head when CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT
are not in the root directory
Release 5.00, (April 1992)
--------------------------
1. Pull Down Menus introduced
2. Full Mouse control introduced
3. Dialog Boxes introduced
4. The "RUN" option now prompts for confirmation of BOOT
5. Selective editing of configurations now possible. After loading
a ".CNF" file, the program will prompt for confirmation before
loading the ".AUT" file.
Details of versions up to 4.15 not included here. This is because
the program's interface has changed COMPLETELY with version 5.00
(hence the big jump in version number from 4.15 to 5.00). Future
changes will be detailed from now on.
