  12. Backup Solutions Being Jointly Developed With Mountain 
  13. Network Solutions

  15.      (TUCSON, AZ -- September 28, 1993) --Artisoft, Inc. 
  16. announced today an agreement with Mountain Network 
  17. Solutions, Inc. to jointly develop a comprehensive backup 
  18. and recovery system for LANtastic Local Area Networks. The 
  19. first in the ArtiSave(TM) Backup software series will be 
  20. available this fall as a software-only solution compatible 
  21. with industry standard SCSI tape backup drives for $339. A 
  22. software/hardware bundle with the Mountain Network 
  23. Solutions' SideCar II(TM) parallel port tape backup drive 
  24. will also be available this Fall at $699. Additional 
  25. packages will be available in early calendar year 1994.

  39. ArtiSave Backup Software Features
  40.      For DOS and Windows(TM) users, the ArtiSave Backup 
  41. software can be run directly on any server to backup the 
  42. drive and will also provide a backup solution to any server 
  43. across the network. This new software offers selective 
  44. (file-by-file) and automatic backup modes. Features include 
  45. automatic installation, easy-to-use menus, on-line context 
  46. sensitive help screens, automatic scheduling of backup 
  47. events, and simultaneous backup of the server while users 
  48. are on the network.
  49.      Windows users can save valuable administration time 
  50. with the ArtiSave software's powerful Librarian feature that 
  51. provides easy-to-use data management features which allow 
  52. automatic tracking of archived files for easy location and 
  53. restoration. Users can catalog every backup and view all 
  54. instances of a file, enabling users to choose which version 
  55. of the file they wish to restore.

  57. Selective Backup     
  58.      The ArtiSave Backup software supports large directory 
  59. structures and defragments files that are backed up file-by-
  60. file, allowing individual files to be quickly restored. The 
  61. selective backup features allow rapid tagging of disks, 
  62. subdirectories and files with a single click. The ArtiSave 
  63. Backup software also provides the ability to backup files 
  64. that have been modified since the last complete backup, 
  65. files between a specified date range or by archive bit.

  67. Automatic Backup
  68.      The ArtiSave Backup software can automatically perform 
  69. an image or selected file backup. The Windows software 
  70. includes an integrated job scheduler feature which allows 
  71. users to schedule unattended backups to run at specific 
  72. times, while the DOS version takes advantage of DOS batch 
  73. file capabilities. 
  74.      Users with an 80386-based computer can take advantage 
  75. of the Windows 386 enhanced mode background operation. This 
  76. will allow them to begin other tasks while the 
  77. backup/restore process runs concurrently in the background.

  79. Backup Sessions
  80.      This new software will recognize when a file is in use 
  81. and will log such files into a tape log which can be used as 
  82. the basis for a later backup. Users can set up a backup 
  83. session with error-level checking and error reporting and 
  84. will be able to check the status of the backup through a 
  85. supervisor feature that displays how many files are left, 
  86. what percentage of the jobs are remaining and the size of 
  87. the backup. Users can also access a log file that records 
  88. any files that were skipped during the backup and indicates 
  89. why they were skipped. This log file can be sent to a 
  90. printer or other output device.

  92. Software-Only Versions
  93.      The ArtiSave Backup software will be available as a 
  94. software-only solution that supports industry standard SCSI 
  95. interface tape backup drives.  This version is scheduled to 
  96. begin shipping in November 1993 and will be priced at $339.
  97.      A version that will support Mountain's TD 250 and 
  98. Colorado Memory System's Jumbo 250 backup drives is 
  99. scheduled to be available early in calendar year 1994. The 
  100. ArtiSave Backup software for these drives will be priced at 
  101. $249.

  103. Hardware Bundle
  104.      The ArtiSave Backup software will be bundled with 
  105. Mountain's SideCarII 305Mb portable backup drive. The 
  106. SideCarII connects directly to the PC's parallel port with 
  107. no additional interface card required. The ArtiSave Rescue 
  108. feature will constantly monitor the drive volumes and the 
  109. tape cartridges that are used to backup the drive.
  110.      In the event of data loss, the combination of the 
  111. ArtiSave Backup software and the Mountain SideCarII parallel 
  112. port tape drive provides a unique remote disaster recovery 
  113. capability. An administrator has the ability to take the 
  114. portable SideCarII drive to the disabled PC and invoke the 
  115. Rescue command to quickly and completely restore the data. 
  116. This bundle is scheduled to begin shipping in November 1993 
  117. and will be priced at $699.
