What is MVOView?
----------------
MVOView is a utility to view the contents of a Market View
investment object file (.MVO)
How to use MVOView
------------------
To view the command line parameters of MVOView just type:
MVOVIEW /?
You get:
MVO View 1.50 (c) 1992,93 Watermill Software Design, All rights reserved.
Usage: MVOVIEW <MVO file(s)> [/W[%] | [DL] | [BM]]
[/DATE=[MMDDYYYY] | [YESTERDAY]] [/T=-BCFNIAUPS]
[/C=xxxx] [/LIST] [/R=<filename>] [/P[xx]]
Where /T legend is:
- (unknown)
B Bond
C Currency
F Future
N Index
I Investment fund
A Call Option
U Put Option
P Prec. metal
S Share
So type:
MVOVIEW FOKKER
To view the contents of the file FOKKER.MVO
The program waits until you type a key, and then returns to
DOS. Note that MVOView adds a ".MVO" extension to the
filename you specify if it does not contian an extension.
If you type:
MVOVIEW *.MVO or
MVOVIEW *
You get a view of all the MVO files in the current
directory.
/W[%][DL] parameter
-------------------
MVOView can operate in 6 ways:
- Full view (default).
- Width view (/W parameter).
- Momentum view (/W% parameter).
- Datelabel view (/WDL parameter).
- Biggest movers view (/WBM parameter).
- List view (/LIST parameter).
When you type:
MVOVIEW FOKKER.MVO /W
You will get a one line contents display of the file FOKKER.MVO
To get a momentum view you can use the /W% parameter:
MVOVIEW FOKKER.MVO /W%
creates a momentum report (back from the current day) of the file
FOKKER.MVO. Positive differences will be green on color displays and negative
differences will be red, abnormal differences will flash.
You can view all the datelabels in a MVO file by using the /WDL parameter:
MVOVIEW FOKKER.MVO /WDL
To get a list of the biggest movers (up and down) on today just type:
MVOVIEW * /WBM
/DATE= parameter
----------------
The /DATE= parameter can be used with the /W% or /WBM parameters. When you use
/W% or /WBm without /DATE=, the last pricedate will be used in the momentum
calculations. You can use an other date by using the /DATE= parameter.
/DATE= can be used in 2 ways:
/DATE=MMDDYYYY (where MMDDYYYY is a date profile) or /DATE=YESTERDAY
The first one selects a specific date, the second uses the last priceday-1.
Example:
MVOVIEW FOKKER /W% /DATE=10121992
or
MVOVIEW FOKKER /W% /DATE=YESTERDAY
or
MVOVIEW * /WBM /DATE=YESTERDAY
/R parameter
------------
Use this parameter to redirect the output of MVOView to a file or printer.
Using this parameter disables the direct screen writes.
For example:
MVOVIEW *.MVO /W /R=MVO.LST
creates a file called MVO.LST in the current directory with the contents
of all the MVO files in the current directory.
or:
MVOVIEW *.MVO /W /R=PRN
Echos the list to the printer.
NOTE: MVOView automatically sorts the files when you use wildcards.
/LIST parameter
---------------
/LIST can be used to generate a list of .MVO filenames. This list can be
saved into a file using the /R parameter and then be used with an archiver such
as ARJ or PKZIP to archive only those files.
For example:
MVOVIEW * /T=N /LIST /R=FILELIST.TXT
generates a list of filenames in the file FILELIST.TXT. All the .MVO files in
that file are from type iNdex.
/T= parameter
-------------
You can use the /T= parameter for filtering certain types of investment
objects.
For example:
MVOVIEW * /W /T=SC
Will display a width view of all (S)hares and (C)urrencies.
or:
MVOVIEW * /W /T=U
Will display a width view of all (U)nknown type objects.
/C= parameter
-------------
The /C= parameter can be used to filter objects with a specific currency.
For example:
MVOVIEW * /W /C=$
Will display a list of all objects with the Dollar ($) currency.
NOTE: This parameter is case sensitive (e.g. "BFr" is not the same as "bfr").
/C= and /T= together
--------------------
When you use the /C and /T parameters together, the filters will be used in a
AND style comparison.
For example:
MVOVIEW * /W /C=$ /T=S
Will filter all objects with a dollar ($) currency AND of the type (S)hare.
/P parameter
------------
You can use the /P parameter to pause the output to the screen at a certain
interval. The default is 25 lines, but you can specify any number you like.
For example:
MVOVIEW * /W /P
will display 25 lines and then stop until you press a key.
MVOVIEW * /W /P50
will do the same, only after 50 lines.
