CBIP.INF Sat 16-October-1993
This is the charter of the comp.binaries.ibm.pc discussion subgroups
in the UseNet news. The charter took effect the 23rd of July, 1991,
and is edited from Bob Sloane's original posting on the cbip
reorganization. Please contact your system manager if your site is
not getting the first two of these subgroups.
comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d
The existing comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d is to be used for discussions
about the actual programs posted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc, such as
bug reports (but not articles about missing parts) or requests
about how to use the programs.
Please do not post your message to cbip.d when it clearly belongs to
cbip.wanted, cbip.archives or some non-cbip newsgroup. This error
has been unfortunately very common since the reorganization.
comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted:
This group is to be used to post requests/replies concerning where
to find ibm pc or compatible programs. Topics would include
requests for missing parts of binaries posted to
comp.binaries.ibm.pc and requests for specific programs.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ The newsgroup below (CBIP.archives) is no longer operational │
│ and has been replaced by the following to newsgroups: │
│ comp.archives.msdos.announce (moderated) │
│ comp.archives.msdos.d │
│ which are described in CAM.INF. │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives: (Obsolete! Don't use!)
This group was used to post announcements related to archive
sites for ibm pc and compatible binary files. Appropriate
articles included such topics as announcements of new binaries
available, connectivity problems with archive sites, and
bug/problem reports concerning programs from archive sites.
Requests concerning where particular programs are available were
not appropriate, and should have been posted to the c.b.i.p.wanted
group instead.
Please note that all these groups are about PD and shareware
programs. Commercial programs are not covered. Likewise OS/2 is not
covered. It has newgroups of its own.
------------- Further directions from Timo ------------------------
With the natural exception of administrative postings and other
clear-cut cases we should not crosspost to the cbip discussion
subgroups.
If your subject is not covered at all in the cbip discussion
subgroups then you should search for a suitable alternative
newsgroup. Please do not post off-topic postings to the cbip
discussion subgroups. It is not possible to give fool-proof
all-round advice on the alternatives, but it would seem that fairly
often one of the groups below might turn out to be suitable. The
letter (M) stands for moderated.
