█│ IMAGINATION STATION │
█│ OAHU BBS COMM PROGRAM DIALING DIRECTORIES │
█│ FOR SEPTEMBER 1993 │
█▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄─┘
I have taken the latest Oahu BBS list prepared by Brent Davis of
of Land's End GT BBS (BBSL0825.TXT) and have compiled the list in-
to dialing directory formats for the most popular communications
programs. Just select the one you need, follow the easy instruc-
tions for loading it into your communications program, and the en-
entire current Oahu BBS list is then loaded into your communica-
tions program, without the tedium of typing each entry.
SPECIAL NOTE: Please use a CURRENT dialing directory! This list
will expire on 30 September 1993. Call Imagination Station for the
next update, due on 01 October 1993. (808) 947-9421.
NEW ITEM:
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ NOTE: Listings marked with an 'N' in the BBSL0825.TXT list are │
│ omitted from the dialing directories, since they indicate a │
│ "closed" system, i.e., systems NOT accepting new users. There │
│ would be little value in dialing up a system that did not accept │
│ new users. BBSes NOT included in the dialing directories are │
│ marked with a [X] symbol in the lower right hand corner of the │
│ listing for the BBS. Also, any listing with "96p" or "96q" will │
│ also be omitted from the dialing directories since they require │
│ modems of 9600 or faster speed to connect. │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The dialing directories are set to certain defaults for most
people: they are set to 2400 baud as a maximum baud rate. If the
dialing entry indicates a lower baud rate, it's because that's the
maximum baudrate accepted by the BBS system on the list. The
default file transfer protocoI is selected for Zmodem. I would
strongly suggest you take a look at the detailed BBS list
(OAHUBBS.SEP) to see all notes and symbols to determine which BBSes
would be worth checking out. Many have a descriptive text telling
you a little about the theme and features of each BBS.
Depending on your particular system configuration, you might want
to change the baud rate and default file transfer protocol to suit
your own system. Some communications programs offer easy utilities
to accomplish this task for an assembled dialing directory.
Note: A [NEW] in the dialing entry indicates a new entry for the
current month. Some of these are new BBSes, others are revivals of
previously operated BBSes.
Look for monthly updates to this file. The filename format will be
OAHUMONTH/YEAR.ZIP as this one is.
Happy browsing!

│ A helpful suggestion: │
├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Once you determine which .DIR or .FON file is the proper one │
│ for your comm program and version, you might want to rename │
│ the file to something less cryptic than the names I have used │
│ (to, for example, OAHU.FON or OAHU.DIR). The names used here │
│ were developed to distinguish among the .FON and .DIR files for │
│ the various programs/versions, and to allow monthly updates to │
│ them. │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
┌──────────────────────────┐
1. │ GT POWER - All versions │
└──────────────────────────┘
There are two dialing directories for different versions of GT -
one for GT15.x - GT16.x (HISEPG5.DIR) and another for GT17.x
(HISEPG7.DIR).
To use the files:
┌─────────────────────────┐
│ GT Power v15.50 - 16.00 │:
└─────────────────────────┘
Copy HISEPG5.DIR to your GT main directory. When you use Alt-D to
access the dialing directory, use the `E' command to Exchange dir-
ectories. Enter the filename of the new directory: HISEPG5 and
you'll have the list of Oahu BBSes installed as the "active" dial-
ing directory. You can always reload your original GT directory
using the `E' command when the dialing directory is on the screen,
then entering : GT.
┌─────────────────┐
│ GT Power v17.x │:
└─────────────────┘
Copy HISEPG7.DIR to your GT main directory. When you use Alt-D to
access the dialing directory, use the `E' command to Exchange dir-
ectories. Use the TAB to display the dialing directories. Select
HISEPG7 as your new dialing directory and you'll have the list of
Oahu BBSes installed as the "active" dialing directory. You can al-
ways reload your original directory using the `E' command when the
dialing directory is on the screen, then entering: GT.
A bonus item for GT users: Use the [T]oggle command to display the
names of the sysops of the various boards under the "Comment 1"
field. Real people work hard at running these boards!
------------------------------------------------------------------
┌──────────────────────────┐
2. │ PROCOMM v2.4.2 and 2.4.3 │:
└──────────────────────────┘
One minor problem with PROCOMM is that its dialing directory allows
only 100 entries, and the Oahu BBS list has just a few more than
that. So I have split the list into two parts, and it's easy to
set it up and use. Here's how:
First, copy the following files in this archive into your PROCOMM
directory or onto the floppy that holds the PROCOMM program. You
should copy only the following 4 files:
HISEPPC1.DIR Dialing directory #1
HISEPPC2.DIR Dialing directory #2
SCANBBS1.BAT Batchfile to load directory #1
SCANBBS2.BAT Batchfile to load directory #2
To start the program:
Type: SCANBBS1 [ENTER]
PROCOMM then loads and you will have the first part of the Oahu BBS
list in PROCOMM for use as your dialing directory. After you quit
PROCOMM with ALT-X, your original dialing directory is restored.
To load up dialing directory #2:
Type: SCANBBS2 [ENTER]
and it will load the 2nd part of the Oahu BBS list for you to use.
Once again, once you quit PROCOMM with ALT-X, your original dialing
directory is still there.
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ NOTE: If you rename the .DIR files, be sure to edit the text of │
│ SCANBBS1.BAT and SCANBBS2.BAT to change the names of the .DIR │
│ files to match your own changes. It's very easy to do. │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
------------------------------------------------------------------
┌───────────────────────────┐
3. │ PROCOMM PLUS v1.x AND 2.x │:
└───────────────────────────┘
For PROCOMM PLUS ver. 1.x, use HISEPPL1.DIR.
For PROCOMM PLUS ver. 2.x, use HISEPPL2.DIR.
To use the dialing directory, all you have to do is copy the proper
one (HISEPPL1.DIR or HISEPPL2.DIR) into your PCPLUS directory.
When you execute ALT-D to access your normal dialing directory, use
the [X] command ( [X]change directories ) to load the new
directory. Rather than typing in the name of the new directory you
will load, just hit [ENTER] and a list of the phone directories
will appear on the screen. Move the cursor to the one named
HISEPPL1 (or HISEPPL2 if you use ver 2.0 or greater), and you'll
have the new Oahu BBS list installed as your "active" dialing
directory. You can always reload your original directory by us-
ing the [X] command when you have the dialing directory on the
screen, then entering PCPLUS (or hitting [ENTER] to have PCPLUS
appear as one of the choices). Your normal PCPLUS.DIR file is
never erased or altered; it's always there intact.
------------------------------------------------------------------
┌─────────────────────┐
4. │ QMODEM v4.x AND 5.x │:
└─────────────────────┘
If you are using QMODEM v4.x, the dialing directory file you should
use is HISEPQ4.FON. If you are using QMODEM v5.0 (registered), you
should use HISEPQ5.FON.
To use it, copy HISEPQ4.FON (or HISEPQ5.FON) to your QMODEM main
directory. When you use Alt-D to access the dialing directory, use
the `L' command to Load a new dialing directory. A dialogue window
will open. Hit [RETURN] and select the filename of the new dialing
directory: HISEPQ4 (or HISEPQ5). The Oahu BBS list will then become
the "active" dialing directory. You can always reload your original
directory by using the `L' command when the dialing directory is on
the screen by entering: QMODEM.
------------------------------------------------------------------
┌───────────────┐
5. │ RIPTERM v1.54 │:
└───────────────┘
If you are using RIPTerm v1.54, dialing directories are provided
for that program; however, RIPTerm provides only 100 entry slots
for the dialing directory, and the current list contains 103
entries. Therefor, the dialing directories are divided into 2
parts.
Copy the files HISEPR1.PHO and HISEPR2.PHO into your RIPTerm
directory. At the dialing directory in RIPTerm (ALT-D), select
the LOAD command. When the dialogue box appears, type in HISEPR1
to load the first part of the new directory. The new directory
becomes your "active" dialing directory and can be used normally.
To load the second part of the new directory, again use ALT-D to
access the dialing directory and use the LOAD command, typing in
HISEPR2. To reload your original RIPTerm dialing directory, the
response to the LOAD prompt is: RIPTERM.
------------------------------------------------------------------
┌───────────────────────┐
6. │ TELEMATE v3.x and 4.x │:
└───────────────────────┘
To use the TELEMATE dialing directory, copy the following file into
your TELEMATE directory (or onto the floppy containing the TELEMATE
program):
HISEPTM.FON The new dialing directory
(Your present dialing directory for TELEMATE (TM.FON) will not at
all be altered by this operation. It is always left intact for you
to use).
To use the file:
Start up TELEMATE in the usual way. Once you're at the dialing
directory, execute [F3]. A dialogue window will appear listing all
dialing directories in your Telemate directory. Highlight
HISEPTM.FON and hit [ENTER]. This loads the Oahu BBS dialing dir-
ectory, making it the "active" dialing directory. Your original
TELEMATE dialing directory (TM.FON) is not unaffected by this oper-
ation.
To reload your original TELEMATE dialing directory (TM.FON),
execute [F3] again from the dialing directory screen and select
TM.FON as your "active" directory, and all is reset as it was
before.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
┌─────────────────────────────┐
7. │ TELIX v3.1x and TELIX v3.2x │:
└─────────────────────────────┘
If you don't have the latest version of TELIX, you're missing some
important new features in the lates: TELIX v3.21. It's available on
most BBSes and I strongly suggest you snag it! A small plug here:
Imagination Station specializes in TELIX files!
For TELIX, copy the following files into your TELIX home directory
(or onto the floppy containing the TELIX program):
HISEPTX.FON The new dialing directory
SCANBBS.BAT Loads new dir and starts Telix
(Your present dialing directory for TELIX (TELIX.FON) will not at
all be altered by this operation. It is always left intact for you
to use).
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
There are two ways you can use the file:
A. From the TELIX directory type:
SCANBBS
This loads the new dialing directory (HISEPTX.FON) into TELIX for
you. Once you quit Telix via the usual ALT-X, your original
dialing directory will then be the active one when you start TELIX
again.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ NOTE: If you have renamed the .FON file, be sure to edit the │
│ text of SCANBBS.BAT to change the .FON file name it uses to │
│ match the filename change. │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
- or -
B. Start up TELIX in the usual way. Once you're at the (ALT-D)
dialing directory, execute 2 commands: [O]ther and select [L]oad.
This will prompt you for the name of the dialing directory to load.
When the dialogue window opens, type: HISEPTX.FON and the new
Oahu BBS list will be loaded as your "active" dialing directory.
Your original (TELIX.FON) directory remains in your TELIX directory
unaffected by this operation. Note:
Telix versions previous to 3.2x insist that you type the full file-
name including the .FON extension.
To reload your normal TELIX dialing directory (TELIX.FON), from
the dialing directory (ALT-D) screen, select the [O]ther and [L]oad
commands again, and type in: TELIX.FON. Your normal dialing
directory is now restored as the "active" directory.

Please note:
The user of the list enclosed and the use of the dialing
directories shall be held solely responsible for choosing to take
such action. The author assumes no responsibility for any errors in
the telephone numbers supplied. I have made every reasonable and
conscientious effort to be sure that the telephone numbers are (1)
correct and (2) current. There is always an inherent danger to
using an outdated list of numbers!
If you do find that any of the numbers is instead contacting
someone or a business not using a BBS on that telephone line,
please send me a message on Land's End BBS to inform me of same,
and please - be sure you don't call that number again!
Note to sysops: Please send any additions/deletions/corrections as
soon as possible to Brent Davis at Land's End BBS (808) 499-2527 or ) or
to me at Imagination Station (808) 947-9421. Thanks!
