LOCAL TORONTO 'CHILD PORN' COMPUTER RING BUSTED!
By Todd Clayton
Toronto Sun Story By Rob Lamberti
The following is an article which appeared in the Toronto Sun
(yesterday) of which I find rather interesting. Text appearing in brackets
are additions of mine to clarify the story from the point of view of a
knowledgeable computer user.
The Toronto Sun, October 22nd 1993. By Rob Lamberti.
A Metro-Area computer kiddie-porn ring was smashed with the
arrest of nine men in pre-dawn raids yesterday.
The ring used computer bulletin boards to circulate photographs
and cartoons (GIFS) of kiddie porn, bestiality, bondage, and sado-
masochism, police say.
The probe began last july after metro police received several
complaints about bulletin board systems.
Police identified the systems as THE GATEWAY, OUTHOUSE, THE
PENITENTIARY, THE LOONY TOON ASYLUM, ALBINO GOAT CREMATORIUM, SCRUPLES,
THE PLAYROOM, and INFINITE REALMS.
The complainants believed the pictures "were going beyond the
bounds of good judgement and good taste because they were exploiting
children through child pornography and the degradation of women," said
Det.-SGT. Chuck Konkel.
Konkel said people would find out about the bulletin boards by
word of mouth and pay a fee to join, or trade visuals.
The underground sex included bestiality involving children and
adults, he said.
Police also seized commercially prepared CD computer discs (CD-ROMs)
legal in some U.S. states, showing bondage and a "whole gamut of fetishes
except necrophilia," said Det.-Cost. Jim Sweeney of the major crime squad.
Written texts (Text Files) on some discs included child snuff
pornography (Biker 1-8 series?), but there was no evidence that these
stories were based on fact.
The group was also pirating legitimate industrial (Lotus, etc.)
and entertainment computer software programs, police say.
Konkel said $75,000 worth of computer equipment and about $500,000
of programming was seized in the raids by metro police fraud, sex assault,
and intelligence squads, with help form York, Durham, and Peel forces.
The eight men and a 17-year old male youth, operators of the
bulletin boards, are charged with distributing obscene material,
distributing child pornography and copyright infringements.
Another man is expected to surrender.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there you have it. Some sick people were arrested justifiably
for having some real sick stuff online. In my opinion, the person they
expect to surrender is "Recent Zephyr". This person is in my opinion a truly
twisted individual who has an obsession with child pornography. I was a
user on three of the above boards, and I can say that they were really no
different than the usual "adult" boards. However, there were Bestiality
GIFS online, as well as bondage and the like. The text files discussed were
IN NO WAY based on fact.
I just hope that the general public doesn't condemn us all for
being child molesters, as not all of us have Warped Minds.
Todd Clayton.
