  3. PORTLAND, Ore. -- Tonya Harding sued the U.S. Olympic Committee Wednesday to protect her place on the figure skating team.

  5.         The suit, filed in an Oregon county circuit court, seeks:

  7.         A court order to keep the USOC from holding a hearing Tuesday in Norway to ask Harding about the Jan. 6 assault on teammate Nancy Kerrigan.

  9.         $ 20 million in punitive damages.
  10.  
  11.         Robert Weaver, Harding's lawyer, said he expects a hearing today on the court order.

  13.         USOC executive director Harvey Schiller said it had expected some action by Harding, and "we are prepared to defend ourselves."

  15.         Sports law experts said jurisdiction is a likely issue.

  17.         "It would all boil down to whether the state of Oregon could invoke any jurisdiction of the USOC," said David Williams of Ohio State.

  19.         Harding is expected in Norway Wednesday - after the planned USOC hearing.

  21.         At issue are seven possible violations of ethics codes of the USOC, the International Olympic Committee and the U.S. Figure Skating Association.

  23.         Harding said she has complied with all USOC rules.

  25.         The suit noted Harding has not been charged, although ex-husband Jeff Gillooly was and pleaded guilty to racketeering.

  27.         A hearing is set for today in Portland to decide if Gillooly can go to Norway to talk to the USOC. The district attorney said he won't oppose it.
