TITLE: Ami Pro Icon is Not Created in Norton Desktop
PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0
DATE: 05-Nov-1991
PROBLEM:
During installation of Ami Pro, an icon to load the program is not created
when Norton Desktop for Windows has replaced the Program Manager.
SOLUTION:
The Ami Pro installation program attempts to create a special group for the
Ami Pro program and the Ami Pro Dialog Editor if it is being installed. The
installation program cannot interpret the group structure within the Norton
Desktop for Windows when it replaces the Windows Program Manager. The group
and icons can be manually added after Ami Pro has been installed.
CREATING A GROUP AND ICON FOR AMI PRO AND THE DIALOG EDITOR
1. In Norton Desktop, choose File / New.
2. If the New Object Destination dialog box appears (it will if there is no
group currently open), choose the name of an existing group in which the
Ami Pro icons can be added then choose OK. Choose Quick Access, then OK
if you want to create a new group. If the New dialog box appears, go to
Step 3.
3. At the New dialog box, select Group to create a new group or Item to
create an Ami Pro icon in the currently selected group.
4. For Title type a description for the group if you are creating a new group
(for example, Lotus Applications) or a description for the icon if you are
creating the icon (for example, Ami Pro). If you are adding a new group,
go to Step 5. If you are adding an icon, for Program/Document/Script
specify the file name AMIPRO.EXE preceded by the correct drive and path
location (for example, C:\AMIPRO\AMIPRO.EXE). You may choose Browse to
search for AMIPRO.EXE if you are not sure of the location.
5. Choose OK. If you are adding an icon to an existing group, the Ami Pro
icon now appears in the currently open group. Go to Step 6. If you are
adding a new group, the new group is now created. Follow the steps below
to add the Ami Pro icon.
a. Choose File / New.
b. In the New dialog box, choose Item.
c. For Title, type a description for the icon (for example, Ami Pro).
d. For Program/Document/Script specify the file name AMIPRO.EXE preceded
by the correct drive and path location (for example,
C:\AMIPRO\AMIPRO.EXE). You may choose Browse to search for AMIPRO.EXE
if you are not sure of the location.
e. Choose OK. The Ami Pro icon now appears in the currently open group.
6. If the Ami Pro Dialog Editor has been installed, repeat Steps 5 a-e above,
replacing the file name AMIDLGED.EXE for AMIPRO.EXE to add an icon for the
Dialog Editor.
7. Make sure the Norton Desktop configuration is saved either manually or
automatically through a selected configuration setting before exiting
Windows. Saving the configuration will ensure that the new group and
icons will be saved.
For more information about adding groups and icons under Norton Desktop for
Windows, refer to the document titled "Using Norton Desktop for Windows"
supplied with that program.
