  1. TITLE:   Creating Different Headers and Footers That Do Not Float

  5. PROBLEM:

  7. Floating headers and footers are attached to text and move with that text.  
  8. How can a header or footer be created that will always begin on page 2 
  9. regardless of the text that appears on page 2?
  10.  
  11. SOLUTION: 
  12.  
  13. A different header or footer that begins on page 2 can be created by using 
  14. frames.
  15.  
  16.   1. In untitled, choose Frame / Create Frame.
  17.   2. In the Create Frame dialog box, specify the desired size and position of 
  18.      a frame for the header or footer area, or choose manual to manually 
  19.      create the frame.
  20.   3. Position the frame in the header or footer area.
  21.   4. With the frame selected, choose Frame / Modify Frame Layout.
  22.   5. Select Where placed for Placement and Opaque for Display.  Other settings 
  23.      are optional (you will probably want to remove the lines and shadow).
  24.   6. Choose OK.
  25.   7. With the frame selected press ENTER.
  26.   8. Type the text for the header or footer.
  27.   9. Press ESC.
  28.  10. Choose Edit / Copy.
  29.  11. Access page 2 by clicking on the down page arrow of the status bar or 
  30.      choosing Edit / Go To / Page Number 2.
  31.  12. Choose Edit / Paste.  A copy of the first frame will appear on page 2 in 
  32.      the same position as the first frame created on page 1.
  33.  13. With the second frame selected, press ENTER.
  34.  14. Highlight the copied text in this frame and type text for the header or 
  35.      footer that should appear beginning with page 2.
  36.  15. Press ESC.
  37.  16. With the second frame selected choose Frame / Modify Frame Layout.
  38.  17. Select Repeat all pages for Placement.  Other settings are optional.  
  39.      NOTE: If a different shadow or line is used for the second frame, you may 
  40.      need to resize the second frame to be slightly smaller than the first 
  41.      frame.
  42.  18. Choose OK.
  43.  19. If you want to save the document as a style sheet, choose Style / Save as 
  44.      a Style Sheet.
  45.  20. Specify the desired style sheet name in the Save as a style sheet option 
  46.      (the current style sheet name appears, but it can be replaced with a new 
  47.      name).
  48.  21. Put an X in the With Contents option.
  49.  22. Choose OK.

  51. The header or footer text typed in the frame created on page one displays only 
  52. on page one.  The text typed in the frame pasted on page 2 will appear on all 
  53. pages of the document except page 1.

  55. NOTE: To have incremental page numbers appear, insert a page number mark 
  56. (choose Page / Page Numbering) in the frame on page one and in the frame on 
  57. page 2.
